YZ125 & YZ125 Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition

In 2020, the riders of the Monster Energy Official Yamaha Factory MXGP and MX2 teams battled in the top flight for the entire season. Jeremy Seewer and Jago Geerts finished the year as runners-up in the MXGP and MX2 respectively. Last season, Yamaha demonstrated incredible strength: two YZ450F riders finished the MXGP World Championship in the top four. Three YZ250F riders finished the MX2 World Championship in the top five. In doing so, they secured Yamaha the title in the manufacturers' championship at the World Championships. In the US, where the 2021 Supercross season has already ended, Monster Energy Yamaha Racing riders dominated both the 250 2021 SX East Coast and West Coast championships on their YZ250F bikes.

Uncompromising and permanent commitment to motocross

Since Yamaha won its first Motocross World Championship nearly 50 years ago, the company has been wholeheartedly committed to supporting the sport and creating a line of winning bikes for riders of all ages. Yamaha was one of the first Japanese manufacturers to make purpose-built race bikes for young riders and the first to introduce 4-stroke motocross motorcycles. Today the company remains a major force in all classes of motocross with a full commitment to all riders.

Yamaha particularly focuses on the importance of the youth motocross scene, where future champions perfect their skills before moving up to the big leagues. For this reason, Yamaha has been running the hugely successful YZ bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup program since 2015, which gives young YZ125, YZ85 and YZ65 riders the opportunity to qualify for the bLU cRU Europe Cup Super Finals each year to get ahead of to make a name for a large international audience at the prestigious Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations. To underscore the company's long-term commitment to motocross, Yamaha will launch an all-new YZ2022 in 125, along with major upgrades to the YZ250 and YZ85 models that will give every rider the opportunity to reach their true potential and jump right into the victorYZone to arrive!

All new YZ125: agility. Power. Victory.

For 2022, the all-new YZ125 will get a completely redesigned high-performance engine along with a significantly upgraded chassis and slimmer, more radical-looking attachments to make it the most competitive YZ125 ever. The new YZ125 offers significantly higher performance with improved drivability at the same time and is characterized by sharper handling, stronger braking performance and improved ergonomics. The new YZ125 is the first choice for aspiring riders who want to gain more confidence and experience and who want to take their performance to the next level. Their advanced specification clearly demonstrates Yamaha's desire to equip tomorrow's champions with the very best equipment in their teenage years, so they'll be ready to compete for the biggest prize as they advance to the pro ranks.

New 125 cc engine: more power with improved drivability

For 2022, Yamaha engineers have worked flat out to develop the most powerful engine that has ever been used in a YZ125. In search of a higher racing performance, the development team has put a brand new two-stroke engine with 125 cm³ displacement on the wheels, which develops a significantly higher performance in the medium to high speed range.

YZ125 & YZ125 Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition

Almost all the important components of the 2022 engine are new and the extensive redesign ensures a significant increase in maximum output in order to give the YZ125 a real win when the starting gate falls. The increased performance, together with the improved drivability and a better feeling when over-revving, enable motocross racers to take full advantage of the increase in performance and to keep the competition in check on all sections of the track.

Head, cylinder and piston - all completely new

The cylinder head, cylinder and piston of the YZ125 have been completely redeveloped as part of the search for more performance and improved performance characteristics. The most important changes include a redesigned combustion chamber as well as a shorter exhaust port and revised cylinder openings, which result in a significant improvement in combustion efficiency.

Newly designed YPVS (Yamaha Power Valve System)

In addition to the changes to the cylinder head and cylinder, a newly designed YPVS is also used. The maximum stroke of the new YPVS has been revised and the opening and closing times have also been modified to increase engine performance and improve drivability.

New Keihin carburetor and V-Force diaphragm inlet

An important feature of the new engine is the Keihin PWK carburetor with a 38,1 mm cross section, which is equipped with a magnetically controlled power jet that provides an instant boost in power when needed. The new carburetor has a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). There is also a 3D map-controlled CDI, which ensures an optimized ignition point. Coupled with the new V-Force diaphragm inlet and a revised exhaust design, this new carburetor / inlet combination allows the YZ125 rider better acceleration on takeoff and more explosive power when accelerating out of corners.

YZ125 & YZ125 Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition

Longer connecting rod and heavier crankshaft

Other changes inside the new engine that contribute to its performance increase include a longer connecting rod and a slightly heavier crankshaft. This leads to a higher mass inertia, which optimizes the motor behavior. The revised fine balancing of the crankshaft is matched to the increased power output of the new engine.

New, highly efficient air intake system

A key feature of the new YZ125 is its completely redesigned air intake system. By redesigning the rear frame, the two side panels and redesigning the seat mount, Yamaha engineers have improved the aerodynamics and reduced the resistance to the inflowing air by 15%, thereby significantly increasing the overall intake efficiency of the new model. This not only contributes significantly to improving the pulling power in the medium to high speed range and improving the overspeed character, but also optimizes the throttle response at low to medium speed range for a more stable run at lower speeds.

New exhaust and shorter muffler

The dimensions and shape of the exhaust were also changed in 2022 to align with the other changes to the engine to optimize performance and improve drivability. The diameter of the expansion pipe is slightly reduced at the widest point and the silencer has been shortened by 50 mm.

Stronger and smoother gearbox

The 6-speed transmission of the YZ125 has been strengthened for 2022 to meet the higher maximum output. The secondary gear ratio is slightly increased through the use of a 13/49 sprocket-sprocket combination - previously 13/48 - while the ratio of 5th and 6th gear has been shortened somewhat to optimize the driving characteristics.

YZ125 & YZ125 Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition

A new gearshift shaft and a modified return spring ensure a much smoother gearshift feel and to cope with the increased engine power, the new YZ125 received stronger clutch springs.

Athletic and more compact attachments

The 2022 YZ125 is equipped with a slimmer tank, a new seat and revised graphics that give the bike a radical, modern and athletic look as an expression of the increased engine performance. This also gives the driver even more control.

Flatter bench

For improved rider control, freedom of movement and easier weight shifting, the top of the bench has been flattened by lowering the front by 6 mm and raising the rear by 5 mm. The new fuel tank merges seamlessly into the front edge of the seat bench. And for easier, faster maintenance, there is also a new seat attachment with just one screw.

YZ125 & YZ125 Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition

Slimmer tank and narrower radiator fairings

The YZ125 is already one of the lightest and most maneuverable bikes in its class, and the new model is even slimmer with the new fuel tank and slim radiator shrouds that make it the most compact YZ125 ever. The knee closure for the driver has been reduced by almost 36 mm, which gives a feeling of enormous slimness and agility and offers the driver improved ergonomics and more freedom of movement.

Newly designed fenders and side covers

In order to implement the new, highly efficient air intake system, the side cover, the rear fender and the receptacle for the new seat bench were redesigned to allow an unhindered flow of air towards the airbox. The shape of the front fender has also been redesigned for better aerodynamics and a more dynamic look.

Newly designed rear frame

The YZ125 is equipped with a robust, high-quality and lightweight double-loop aluminum frame. And for 2022, the detachable rear frame has a new attachment point for the shorter silencer. A newly designed, raised cross member enables improved suction efficiency by providing a free path for the incoming air. This new cross member also houses the new, single attachment point for the bench seat to simplify maintenance.

Revised suspension setup

The KYB spring elements of the YZ125 are considered to be the best in their class and are characterized by a special damper valve that offers excellent damping at medium speeds. These highly specified suspension systems will be further refined for 2022. Both the telescopic fork and the shock absorber have revised low-speed damping characteristics for improved chassis performance and better handling.

YZ125 & YZ125 Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition

Stronger front brake and lighter rear brake

For more braking power and a more precise braking feel, the new model is equipped with a new, stiffer double-piston brake caliper and a new brake disc with a diameter of 270 mm. The pistons, which have been enlarged to 25,4 mm in diameter, increase the contact surface of the new linings with the disc by 30%. The new, more powerful front wheel brake enables stronger and later braking and thus ensures faster lap times.

New generation colors and graphics

The new YZ125 comes in the latest Icon Blue color in the form of a two-tone paintwork that combines Yamaha's famous Icon Blue with a dark matte blue. The completely new attachments and the new “in-mold” graphics emphasize the dynamic and athletic appearance of this new generation 125cc model and clearly show the commitment of Yamaha to provide the champions of tomorrow with an extremely competitive and attractive package.

YZ125 Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition

In addition to the YZ125 in Icon Blue, Yamaha has the YZ125 Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition created that offers every aspiring young rider the chance to own a bike in real factory style and to race with it. It was the original YZ250 that brought Yamaha the first World Championship with Håkan Andersson in 1973 - the first of many 250cc FIM Championship and AMA Supercross titles that this iconic motocross bike won with some of the greatest riders of this for decades Sports picked up.

Even today, the reputation and popularity of this remarkable race bike are as strong as ever with riders. You will appreciate its light weight, mechanical simplicity, great looks and impressive performance. It is fair to say that the YZ250 is a true legend in the off-road world: how many other motocross bikes have their own Facebook pages with thousands of followers?

The development of this extremely successful motocross bike will continue for 2022: The new YZ250 has completely new, super slim attachments that sharpen its profile and make it an incredibly dynamic bike on the racetrack. But the new model is much more than just a cosmetic makeover. The new, improved chassis specification includes more powerful brakes, revised spring elements, new lightweight components and a highly efficient intake system.

Super slim attachments with pronounced horizontal lines

The YZ250 has completely new, super slim attachments that are similar to the design of the brand new YZ125 and have strong horizontal lines. These give the bike its aggressive and determined look. The new tank and the new radiator panels ensure that the dimensions between the driver's knees are significantly smaller, which enables improved freedom of movement when shifting weight and cornering. The compact add-on parts also create a feeling of lightness and agility that underlines the athletic character of the new model.

YZ125 & YZ125 Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition

Flatter bench

In addition to the narrower knee joint, the 2022 YZ250 has a redesigned bench with a flatter top. It improves the ergonomics of the bike and shifting weight to the front and back is easier and faster.

A new rear fender and new side covers ensure improved air intake efficiency

The front fender has a sharper and more dynamic look and the side covers and rear fender have been redesigned to improve the efficiency of the air intake. For this purpose, larger rear ventilation slots have been integrated into the side covers and the seat bench mount and the top of the rear fender have been designed in such a way that the air flow is not obstructed. The resulting increase in intake efficiency contributes to improved performance at higher engine speeds. And to match the new air inlet, the YZ250 is equipped with a newly designed exhaust with changed dimensions.

YZ125 & YZ125 Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition

Lighter and stronger brakes

The new YZ250 has a powerful, new brake system that offers increased performance and improved controllability while reducing weight at the same time. The newly designed 270 mm front brake disc has an unchanged diameter. By installing a new, stiffer brake caliper with a piston diameter increased to 25,4 mm, the new front brake has a 30% larger pad surface. This combination of higher caliper rigidity and a much larger pad surface ensures first-class braking power and enables sensitive braking with just one finger.

YZ125 & YZ125 Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition

The rear brake has also been improved by installing a slightly (5 mm) smaller 240 mm disc and a newly developed brake caliper. The surface area and braking performance are the same as in the previous model, but almost 100 grams of weight have been saved.

Revised suspension setup

The highly specified 48 mm KYB SSS telescopic fork (Speed Sensitive System) and the KYB Link-Type monocross shock absorber of the YZ250 set standards. Settings have been revised for 2022 in order to achieve even better low-speed damping properties.

Weight-saving components

Further small but significant weight savings were achieved through the use of a newly designed clutch lever and sprocket.

New colors and graphics

The 2022 YZ250 has a dynamic and high-quality two-tone color scheme in Icon Blue with durable "in-mold" graphics that are designed for harsh motocross driving conditions.

YZ125 & YZ125 Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition

With compact, new add-on parts as well as a flatter seat and a number of revisions to the chassis, many of the changes to the new YZ85 mirror those of the all-new YZ125. And like its bigger sister, the new YZ85 is designed to deliver a stronger, better, and more athletic package for riders who aspire to the victorYZone.

Dynamic new styling

The new 2022 styling is very similar to that of the larger YZ models. The compact, new add-on parts have a pronounced horizontal design, which, together with the flat seat and the newly designed radiator panels, give this youth bike its confident and aggressive appearance.

The new two-tone color scheme offers contrasting areas in Icon Blue and dark matte blue and the new "In-Mold" graphics are designed to withstand many tough racing conditions and help ensure that this high-tech race bike always looks good.

Slim new attachments

For 2022, the YZ85 has received slimmer attachments that give the driver more freedom of movement for more control when accelerating, braking and cornering. The redesigned radiator fairings are 25 mm narrower at their widest point and now have the same look on the left and right, which from the rider's point of view contributes to the balanced riding experience of the bike.

YZ125 & YZ125 Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition

The redesigned front fender is characterized by an upper area, which serves to better direct the air flow towards the radiator in order to ensure more effective cooling and thus consistently strong engine performance. The dynamic design also complements the compact, new attachments and underlines the bike's YZ family DNA, which it inherited from the YZ125.

Flatter seat and redesigned fuel tank

And like the YZ125, the new YZ85 is also equipped with a flatter seat, which enables the driver to shift his body weight more easily. The ergonomics are further improved by the new 5 liter fuel tank with a newly designed tank cap. The tank offers more freedom of movement towards the front of the bike. The seat also has a new one-screw fastening, making routine maintenance easier and faster.

Highly efficient rear air intake

The redesigned side covers of the YZ85 fulfill two important tasks: First, their elegant and tight-fitting design promotes the driver's freedom of movement so that he can quickly shift his weight forwards or backwards. Second, they have new rear air vents that allow more direct airflow into the engine's airbox, resulting in greater suction efficiency for improved engine performance.

YZ125 & YZ125 Monster Energy Yamaha Racing Edition

More linear performance of the rear brake

For a more linear character of the rear brake, the YZ85 is equipped with a new master brake cylinder with an integrated brake fluid reservoir. This new, more efficient design replaces the separate expansion tank with connecting hose of the previous model to provide a more natural and linear braking feel with more precise feedback.

Light aluminum rear frame and new swing arm

For 2022, the chassis of the new YZ85 is equipped with a new, lightweight aluminum subframe. It's 570 grams lighter than the steel unit used on the previous model. This significant weight reduction also contributes to the mass centralization of the bike.

The newly designed swing arm offers a revised balance between longitudinal and torsional rigidity. This small but significant change improves chassis stability and allows the driver to transfer power to the ground more effectively.
