Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 inherits the Eagle F1 tire!

The new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 is the latest in an award-winning line of Ultra High Performance (UHP) tires. It fits a wide range of high-performance vehicles, from compact hatchbacks to sports sedans and coupes. Along with the recently launched Eagle F1 SuperSport, SuperSport R and SuperSport RS, Goodyear is offering its largest UHP and UUHP (Ultra-Ultra-High-Performance) offering to date.

The motorsport legacy

The Goodyear Eagle F1 name pays homage to the tire manufacturer's incredible Formula 1 heritage. Goodyear tires were first used in Formula 1964 in 1. In 35 years, Goodyear has won 368 Grands Prix and 26 Constructors' World Championships - a record that still stands. Unlike today, there was an open tire competition that encouraged Goodyear to develop innovative competitive technologies. Launched in 1, the legendary McLaren F1992 supercar was fitted with special Goodyear Eagle F1 tires to deliver the 620 hp of the 6,1 liter V12 engine to the tarmac. In 1994 the Eagle F1 range was expanded to other supercars and sports cars with the distinctive Eagle F1 GS-D2 (Grand Sport – Directional) and later the GS-D3. The eye-catching directional tires became a favorite of sports car drivers and tuners alike, as they combined good dry handling with stunning wet grip.

From directional to asymmetrical

In 2007, the Eagle F1 lineup underwent its most striking design change. It went from its trademark directional tread pattern to an all-new asymmetric design. Laurent Colantonio, Technology Director Consumer Tires EMEA, joined Goodyear as an engineer at the height of the Eagle F1 directional tire era – a time when hot hatchbacks had 15-inch rims and supercars had smaller rim diameters than some compact cars today. He explains the reason for the move to an asymmetric design: “The car fleet started to evolve, weight increased, 18- and 19-inch rim sizes became the norm, and the cars of the mid-2000s were both weight and also increased in performance. We looked for a tread design with a wider outer shoulder to handle the extra dynamic load. Our development teams realized that we could maintain our strengths, wet handling and braking performance, while improving grip and dry handling by moving to an asymmetric design with a strong shoulder construction.”

When the Eagle F1 Asymmetric entered its third generation in 2016, new design elements were introduced for both performance and environmental reasons, as Colantonio explains: “The introduction of the EU tire label meant that consumers started to consider factors such as rolling resistance and noise, even in a high-performance vehicle. We were able to score with the EU label while increasing performance.”

New focus on efficiency and performance

“With the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3, Goodyear innovations like the Active Braking Technology introduced, which increases the contact area and grip when braking, thus enabling a shorter braking distance. With this generation, we've also used a new, reinforced construction that allows for a lighter build without sacrificing strength. This focus on efficiency and performance became a hallmark of Eagle F1 tires. After introducing the Asymmetric 3, we immediately focused on improving handling and wet performance. With rim sizes over 20 inches becoming commonplace, we also developed other tire sizes to accommodate the rapid growth in the vehicle population.” Goodyear is always one step ahead of the market. Because just three years later, its successor, the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5, became a regular test winner. Even the youngest member, the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, now has its heritage with recent test wins car engine and sport and Car picture started successfully.
