If the curb is touched during the holding maneuver or if you stay so close that the flanks are deformed, there is a risk of serious damage. This also always applies when the wheels are just barely balanced on the edge of the sidewalk and most of the tire overhangs. Under certain circumstances, this can lead to complications that the driver cannot even see at first glance. An invaluable advantage here is enjoyed by those who do not change their tires themselves, but have this done regularly in a specialist workshop. Both the profile and the flanks are automatically examined for damage with an expert eye. With all-season tires it is not necessary to move them, but they should of course also be regularly examined by an expert.

Do not approach the curb at an acute angle

In such a case, roll onto the curb at a right or at least at a large angle. With carefully dosed gas, drive up the edge as slowly as possible. Avoid violent bumps and make sure that the tires are completely on the respective level and do not overhang. If, with all due care, an audible or noticeable impact has occurred, make sure to inspect the tire. If the rubber is deformed or if there is visible damage to the rim, it is better to go to a workshop. A gradual loss of air after the incident can also be an indication of an impending major damage. In this case, too, consult an expert as a precaution.
