The successful cooperation between BMW M Motorsport and the leading simulation platform iRacing will enter the next round in 2023. As the world's first manufacturer, BMW M Motorsport will also make its new LMDh vehicle, the BMW M Hybrid V8, accessible to the sim racing community. As with the BMW M4 GT3, the real and virtual development of the vehicle run in parallel. The cooperation was officially announced on Saturday at the BMW SIM Live event.

"BMW M Motorsport and iRacing have been close and well-coordinated partners for many years when it comes to bringing real BMW M racing cars into the virtual world," says Maurizio Leschiutta, LMDh Project Manager at BMW M Motorsport. "As the manager of such an important project, confidentiality is my top priority, because it would be fatal if the competition found out technical details about our vehicle that we absolutely want to keep secret. On this point, I was impressed by iRacing's professionalism. We provide iRacing CAD data as well as findings from our tests in the simulator and on the race track, on the basis of which they create a true-to-the-original virtual version. This gives every sim racer the opportunity to experience the performance of such a state-of-the-art prototype and the fascination of BMW M Motorsport for themselves.”
BMW M Hybrid V8
Steve Myers, Executive Vice President at iRacing, said: “We are very excited to announce that the BMW M Hybrid V8 will be coming to the iRacing platform in the coming months. We've been eagerly awaiting the LMDh class for years and the support from BMW M Motorsport has been incredible in helping us bring both their car and the entire new class to iRacing. Our team really enjoyed designing the BMW M Hybrid V8. We can't wait to see how the community will respond to this."
BMW M Motorsport and iRacing have already worked hand in hand on several vehicle projects. The BMW M8 GTE was transferred from reality to the virtual world, as were the BMW M4 GT4 and BMW M4 GT3 later. Now the LMDh project offers the next opportunity to launch a vehicle in two worlds at the same time.
The race premiere of the real BMW M Hybrid V8 at the 24 Hours of Daytona (USA) in January 2023 is getting closer. The vehicle is currently in its intensive test phase in the USA. While the tests are carried out with a special camouflage livery, the BMW M Hybrid V8 will be given a factory design in iconic BMW M Motorsport colors from the beginning of next year. This was presented in Los Angeles (USA) in September 2022 and can now also be seen on the virtual version of the vehicle. If we get more information, there is of course an update for this report.
