BMW M Motorsport and Walkenhorst Motorsport are starting their next big project: the team that won the drivers' title in the Intercontinental GT Challenge last season with Augusto Farfus (BRA) and Nick Catsburg (NED) will be with two BMW M2021 GT6s in 3 and top-class drivers compete in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS. The endurance specialists will contest the Endurance Cup, which consists of five races on some of the most famous racetracks in Europe. The highlight of the season is the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (BEL), which Walkenhorst Motorsport won in 2018. The official test drives on the “Circuit Paul Ricard” in Le Castellet (FRA) are already on the program this week.

BMW works drivers Timo Glock (GER), Martin Tomczyk (GER), Sheldon van der Linde (RSA) and Marco Wittmann (GER) will be at the wheel of the two BMW M6 GT3s this season. The other two places will be occupied by the Walkenhorst Motorsport drivers David Pittard (GBR) and Thomas Neubauer (FRA).

"After the successful 2020 IGTC season, we are all very motivated to build on our successes," says Niclas Königbauer, team manager at Walkenhorst Motorsport. “We are preparing intensively and doing our best to get the results it deserves in the farewell season for the BMW M6 GT3. I am very happy with our driver line-up and know that we have laid an important foundation for achieving our goals. Our package will be strong and as a team we are very much looking forward to the challenges of the 2021 season. "

Following the official test drives, the crucial phase of preparation for the season opener, which is scheduled for April 18 in Monza (ITA), begins. With the exception of the 24 hours of Spa-Francorchamps and the 6 hours of Le Castellet, the races of the Endurance Cup are each three hours long. Other venues are the Nürburgring (GER) and Barcelona (ESP).

this season we are breaking completely new ground

As the world's first major GT racing series, the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS is breaking completely new ground this season by integrating sim racing as a central element directly into the championship. In the run-up to each of the five endurance races, there is a run of the Fanatec Esports GT Pro Series on the Assetto Corsa Competizione simulation platform, in which a driver nominated by the teams fights for points for the real overall standings. In total, a maximum of 15 points are awarded in the sim races, which can play a decisive role in the final settlement.

Sheldon van der Linde (# 34 BMW M6 GT3): “It is great to contest a complete endurance season together with Walkenhorst Motorsport. The last IGTC race in 2020 in Kyalami was a great success and one of the greatest highlights of my GT career. Hopefully we can build on that and bring the team forward with our mix of experienced and young drivers. The goal is to fight for victories. Then we'll see where we stand at the end of the season. "

Marco Wittmann (# 34 BMW M6 GT3): “I'm really looking forward to working with Walkenhorst Motorsport. The GT World Challenge Europe is a new experience for me, but of course my goal is to have a successful season together with my driver colleagues and the team - hopefully with spectators again as soon as the pandemic situation allows. David Pittard (# 34 BMW M6 GT3): “The anticipation for the next step in my development with Walkenhorst Motorsport in the GT World Challenge Europe is huge. The prerequisites for continuing to learn alongside BMW works drivers and improving my skills are excellent. Our driver line-up with Marco Wittmann and Sheldon van der Linde, the fastest BMW drivers in the DTM in recent years, is very strong. We should be well positioned for the season and the 24 hours of Spa-Francorchamps. "

I am particularly happy that it finally works out to drive a car with Martin Tomczyk. This has never happened before. I'm excited to see what we can achieve together with Thomas Neubauer and the BMW M6 GT3. "

Martin Tomczyk (# 35 BMW M6 GT3): “For me, too, the GT World Challenge Europe will be a new challenge. So far, however, I have always experienced the SRO's racing series as highly professional. So I'm really looking forward to it. I have often talked to Timo Glock about the fact that we should drive a car as teammates - now it finally works. With Thomas Neubauer, we have a new driver with us, and I'm really looking forward to getting to know him. In general, I can't wait for us to finally race again. "
