With the new Ford Focus ST Edition, Ford presents the most agile version of the ST family history to date. Among other things, it stands out from the production version with a fully adjustable threaded chassis, an electronic limited-slip differential and weight-optimized 19-inch wheels. The result is extraordinary driving dynamics that will delight car enthusiasts. In addition, the edition differs from the Ford Focus ST “Standard” models through exclusive design and equipment features. The edition model of the fourth Ford Focus generation, which is now available in Germany as well as in some other European markets (Great Britain, Austria, Poland and Switzerland), will be launched exclusively as a 5-door sedan (hatchback), as the sedan is in comparison has the lower starting weight for the tournament. Buyers of the Ford Focus ST Edition receive a compact sports car, the chassis of which has been worked out by the specialists at Ford Performance - for example during tough test drives on the legendary Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. In doing so, the experts achieved an optimized vehicle balance and control when cornering quickly, which is an ideal match for the high-performance drive train of the special model. In addition, the chassis offers extensive adjustment options.

For this purpose, the Ford Focus ST Edition receives a two-way coilover kit from motorsport specialist KW. Its central components include double tube dampers with housings made of stainless steel and powder-coated spiral springs in the striking blue of Ford Performance. The Ford Focus ST Edition is already ten millimeters lower than the standard Ford Focus versions, and buyers of the edition model have a further 20 millimeters as an individual setup option. Ford has increased the spring rate by more than 50 percent compared to the standard ST.

The pressure level - i.e. the intensity of the upward movement of the damper when the wheel hits a bump in the road - can be set by the driver in twelve steps; the rebound stage - i.e. the rebound - even in 16 positions. These individual tuning options offer an even greater degree of control over cornering.

To help with an optimal setup, buyers of the Ford Focus ST Edition receive technical instructions with recommended suspension settings for various conditions, including a special Nürburgring-Nordschleife setup. In this way, performance enthusiasts can fine-tune their ST Edition to their individual driving experiences.

Weight-optimized 19-inch alloy wheels

The weight-optimized 19-inch alloy wheels reduce the unsprung masses by ten percent compared to the conventional Ford Focus ST. A flow molding process is used for the wheels. The light metal is compacted in such a way that it has the same high tensile strength and higher impact resistance while using less material. As a result, the wheels provide further improved directional stability on uneven road surfaces and reduce the forces acting on springs and dampers. This optimizes the road contact of the tires and improves grip as well as the feedback to the driver.

As an alternative to the standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, Ford offers a high-performance option: the grip-optimized Pirelli P Zero Corsa are characterized by outstanding handling properties, especially on dry roads and on racetracks.

Electronic limited slip differential as standard

The standard electronic limited-slip differential eLSD on the driven front axle is one of the numerous sport technologies in the Ford Focus ST Edition. If necessary, it uses hydraulically operated clutches to direct up to 100 percent of the available torque to the wheel with the best traction, thus preventing the other tire from spinning. The electronically controlled system reacts faster than a conventional mechanical differential lock and can also proactively adjust the torque based on data from the engine and vehicle sensors.

Output of the 2,3 liter EcoBoost engine: 206 kW (280 hp), torque: 420 Nm

The 2,3 liter EcoBoost unit made of all-aluminum has a twin-scroll turbocharger with low inertia and an optimized inlet and outlet system. The four-cylinder delivers peak output of 206 kW (280 hp) at 5.500 rpm, and the maximum torque of 420 Nm is between 3.000 and 4.000 rpm. In the “Sport” and “Race Track” driving modes, the anti-lag technology, inspired by the Ford GT super sports car and the F-150 Raptor performance pick-up, provides even more spontaneous performance.

The sprint from 0 to 100 km / h takes just 5,7 seconds, with acceleration with a standing start thanks to the flat-shift function. The system also keeps the throttle valve open when the clutch is depressed when shifting up via the standard 6-speed manual transmission. The propulsion of the Ford Focus ST Edition reaches up to a top speed of 250 km / h.

With the choice of driving modes, the driver influences the characteristics of the electronic limited-slip differential, the accelerator pedal mapping, the electro-mechanical power steering EPAS and the electronic stability control ESC. The additional "Race Track" mode ensures the most active driving settings, gives the pilot a great deal of freedom until the ESC intervenes and thus lays the foundation for a highly exciting and sporty driving experience.

As in the series version, the ST-Edition also relies on optimized tie rod levers, fast-reacting EPAS steering with just two turns of the steering wheel from lock to lock and a high-performance braking system. This has 330 millimeter brake discs at the front and 302 millimeter discs at the rear and, thanks to its high resistance to brake fading, is also suitable for ambitious use on racetracks.

Specific design accents

The Ford Focus ST Edition, available exclusively as a 5-door hatchback sedan, is characterized by specific design accents and equipment features. The standard special paintwork in nitro blue gives the edition model an unmistakable appearance. The upper grille, the exterior mirror caps, the roof spoiler and the rear diffuser are finished in the high-gloss contrasting color black. The roof panel also stands out in high-gloss black, in addition, exclusive ST logos with black borders characterize this special version.

The standard part-leather sports seats from Recaro determine the interior. The upholstery is finished with decorative stitching in the typical nitro blue. The same finish adorns the ST leather steering wheel, the gear knob sleeve, the knee pads of the center console and the floor mats at the front. The start button is made in the same red as the ST logos.

Ford Focus ST also available as a tournament and as a diesel

In addition to the new Ford Focus ST Edition model, which is exclusively available as a sedan petrol engine, the Ford Focus ST is also still available - either as a sedan or as a tournament (station wagon), either as a petrol engine (2,3- Liter EcoBoost with 206 kW / 280 PS) or as diesel (2,0 liter EcoBlue with 140 kW / 190 PS). The diesel versions are combined with a 6-speed manual transmission, and a 7-speed automatic transmission is optionally available for the petrol engine.
