Ford is adding a chassis variant of the current Ford Ranger to its range for the first time. Numerous users, from the construction industry to emergency services, have the opportunity to have needs-based special vehicles configured on the basis of Europe's best-selling pick-up and winner of the International Pick-up of the Year Award 2020. The rugged ranger chassis uses a body-on-frame construction. It is a separate body that is mounted on a rigid vehicle frame that also carries the drive train. Ford expects that the combination of selectable all-wheel drive (standard), off-road capability, resilience and fuel-efficient 2,0-liter EcoBlue diesel engine will arouse the interest of many discerning customers.
Chassis for conversions and superstructures
The new chassis variant will be available to order from January 2021 as a single cabin in the XL equipment variant. Sales price: from 30.165 euros (net). In addition to the versatile base vehicle, customers also benefit from a partner network with more than 160 qualified bodybuilders and conversion manufacturers in 13 European markets who can deliver tailor-made solutions for almost all special requirements. "We designed the Ford Ranger chassis for users who need a robust and off-road vehicle to be able to transport their special equipment to places that are difficult to accessSays Paul Baynes, Conversions Manager, Commercial Vehicles, Ford of Europe. "Thanks to the versatile base vehicle and the extensive network of certified bodybuilders, customers benefit from extremely versatile transport solutions with which they can do any job, wherever they work."
Proven base vehicle
The new Ranger chassis variant is also characterized by a resilient leaf suspension at the rear. The deep frame forms the basis for a variety of structures. In addition, the Ranger scores with a permissible total weight of up to 3.270 kilograms and a maximum trailer load of 3,5 tons, so that even heavy loads and an additional trailer can be transported without any problems. The design as a single cabin enables a body length behind the cabin of up to 2.518 millimeters. The Ford Ranger's fording depth of 800 millimeters and its ground clearance of 230 millimeters ensure uncompromising off-road capabilities.
Certified bodybuilder and conversion manufacturer with factory support from Ford
The European network of Ford-certified bodybuilders and conversion manufacturers offers the know-how that customers need for customized special vehicles. Ford worked closely with the relevant companies in order to fully exploit the potential of the new Ranger chassis and to enable a wide range of superstructures - for example tippers, suitcases or hydraulic work platforms. Detailed technical information and the corresponding assembly manuals from Ford help the bodybuilder and conversion manufacturer with all the necessary work steps.
A real all-wheel drive professional: whether on the road or off-road
A highly efficient EcoBlue four-cylinder diesel with a displacement of 2,0 liters, 125 kW (170 hp) and a maximum torque of 420 Nm provides powerful propulsion. The new Ford Ranger chassis also shows its strengths off the beaten track thanks to the standard connectable all-wheel drive with electronic gear selection.
