Puch

The Puch-Werke were founded in 1899 by Johann Puch. A merger with Steyr-Werke AG resulted in Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG. The company Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG was for many years a very important conglomerate in the iron processing industry. At the same time, Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG was also one of the largest employers in Austria. From 1987 the company was divided into numerous subgroups that are now independent. The company produced cars, trucks, buses, armored vehicles, tractors and even motorcycles. A well-known vehicle was the Puch G. It was identical to the Mercedes-Benz G, which was also built in Graz. Well-known Steyr tanks are the Saurer infantry fighting vehicle, the Kürassier, the Pandur and the ASCOD-Ulan. From 1980 on, Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG was the third largest industrial company in Austria with around 17.000 employees. The remaining Steyr-Daimler-Puch Fahrzeugtechnik AG & Co. KG (SFT) from Graz was then merged with Magna Europa AG to form Magna Steyr in 2001. For this purpose, the company was set up as an independent subgroup of Magna International. The company currently operates as Service Technologies GmbH & Co OG.
