The Ronal Group presented a world premiere at this year's IAA in Frankfurt am Main. There the company presented a “tested” one-piece, additively manufactured light metal alloy wheel called “SLM Concept Wheel”. The concept rim was developed by Ronal Technologie GmbH (Innovation center of the Ronal Group) developed and finally put into practice. The aluminum rim comes from the 3D printer and is a one-piece wheel made of aluminum light metal (AlSi10) with a total weight of approx. 5 kilograms. Ronal specifies the maximum wheel load as 515 kilograms. In the 7 × 13 inch format, the rim fits, for example, on a Ford Capri from the 70s. And to show that, they took one with them to the RONAL GROUP stand. The "SLM Concept Wheels" are approved for use in road traffic in accordance with StVZO §30 and have even exceeded the necessary requirements. Is this what the future of wheel manufacture using selective laser melting looks like? Why not! And the “Selective Laser Melting” manufacturing process is also responsible for the name of the concept wheel. The additive process runs without tools and enables a particularly high degree of design freedom and functional integration. The result is highly customizable rims according to the customer's wishes. And once a wheel is “printed”, it is checked by X-rays to avoid defects and material defects. If we receive more information in a timely manner, there will of course be an update for this report.
