BMW is currently simmering the rumor mill. According to rumors from insiders from CarMagazine wants BMW based on the coming M2G87 a new Electric athlete with over 1.000 hp launch. The new sports car should be in the class of Supercar play along and as iM2 sold. But the BMW scene takes on the rumors with mixed feelings, while many longingly want an alternative to the Tesla in the form of an electric sports car, other BMW fans see the iM2 as the beginning of the end of the classic M models.

Monster BMW iM2 with 1.360 PS?

With all rumors, however, the performance of the models plays a decisive role. Although with a 250 kW electric motor on each wheel, system outputs of 1.000 kW or over 1.360 PS are possible in the compact M2 format, the question arises how realistic this assumption is. Because according to the current state of knowledge, the iM2 would bring more than twice the performance than the currently most powerful production model of the M5 CS with 635 PS on the road. We believe there CAN'T on it!

Experience has shown that at M GmbH the respect distance between the “smaller” and “larger” series discord has been complied with and plays an important role. For this reason, separate engines were developed for the new M2 and not simply engines from the M3 or M4 installed. And now, with the iM2, does BMW want to put everything that has existed so far in the shade? With +1.300 PS the new iM2 would even have one M8 Competition Make the experts look ridiculous unrealistic hold.

If the rumors from Car Magazine are confirmed, the iM2 could soon be used fact become. Because the electric M2 should already 2022, in the anniversary year of M GmbH. A prototype with the name "Katharina" is said to have already completed a few laps on the Nürburgring's Nordschleife and lap times of less than 7 minutes have set. Thus, the M2 would already be on a par with the elite of electric cars such as a Porsche Taycan Turbo S.

However, the signs seem clearer on two other M GmbH electric cars, namely the i4 M50 and the iX M60. The two power variants of the current i-models should be between 500 and 600 hp on the street, but would still go a long way behind the iM2 lie. Whether and when the iM2 will go on sale and whether the rumors are confirmed will probably take a while. We commit ourselves: the IM2 comes out so strong not and we generally expect a super sports car from BMW not.

  1. Anyone who has seen BMW M boss Markus Flasch at JP Performance could assume that there could be something to the 1000 PS + iM2. The question to JP whether he doesn't find his Taycan boring now makes one look deeply. The expression on his face speaks volumes….
