Cabriolets were long threatened with extinction because sales have been steadily declining since the turn of the millennium. But now the trend could be reversed, because growth markets such as China or India are increasingly discovering the desire for open-top driving. In the upper and luxury class, convertibles have always been an exception on this side of a Rolls-Royce or Bentley. In addition to the Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet, the production of which was discontinued in the summer of 2020, only the BMW 8 Series is currently available as an open variant. In contrast to the Benz, you get the BMW brand new. Today we would like to give you the Mercedes S63 AMG Cabriolet HS Motorsport from Eching near Munich.
Modifications to the litter!
The design language of the S-Cabriolet looks classy and elegant, but is not without controversy, since for many people it is, alongside the G-Class, the epitome of a swanky Benz. Nevertheless, the car will mature into an upcoming classic, because it was probably the last generation of the open S-Class that left the factory. HS Motorsport took care of the noble vehicle and gave it a set of high-quality E3 FF rims from the HS Motorsport-House brand Elegance Wheels.
The Y-spoke wheels, with a black finish and classic design, were installed in 21-inch format and, from our point of view, harmonize perfectly with the open-top Benz. 21-inch wheels were also fitted to the rear axle, but in a deep-concave design to create a sportier effect. All four were fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires in size 255/35ZR21 at the front and thick rollers in size 305/30ZR21 do their job at the rear. Lowering springs also ensure a dynamic look without neglecting comfort.
A 4-liter V8 biturbo petrol engine provides propulsion!
If necessary, it can also get stormy in the luxurious autobahn glider. 612 hp and a massive 900 Newton meters of maximum torque push the load forward properly. The car accelerates to 3,5 km/h in just 100 seconds and only stops at an electronically limited 250 km/h, with a surcharge even guaranteeing 300 km/h. Power is transmitted via an AMG Speedshift transmission with nine gears and the all-wheel drive called 4MATIC+ is standard.
Our conclusion:
- We like the understated presentation and ensure that the Benz gains visual dynamism without appearing exaggerated. For that we give credit HS Motorsport.
