To celebrate the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2023 in the UK, Porsche has the latest vision in the form of the 357 Speedster presented. The powerful Electric sports car is the counterpart to the closed one Vision 357, which served as the kickoff to Porsche's anniversary year. The Vision 357 Speedster, an aesthetic homage to the legendary 356 and technologically based on that 718 GT4 e Performance, impressively shows the development of the sports car manufacturer. "With the Porsche Vision 357 we want to honor the very first Porsche, Ferry Porsche's dream car. The 356 has anchored itself in our brand history in both the open and the closed version, which is why we follow the same principle in the study: there must be two variants“, explains Michael Mauer, chief designer at Porsche.
Porsche Vision 357 Speedster
The Vision 357 Speedster clearly represents the Porsche brand DNA. "Here, driving pleasure and driving dynamics meet an extremely minimalist design. As with our recently presented Mission X, it becomes clear: Despite modern design elements, the typical Porsche DNA remains untouched" explains Wall. Since the Vision 357 Speedster on the Technology of the 718 GT4 e-Performance, it benefits from the Electric motor and battery technology of the Mission R and the chassis of the 718 GT4 Clubsport. The design of the Speedster is characterized by a low, shortened Windscreen .
A characteristic tarpaulin – the so-called Tonneau cover - extends over the right side of the vehicle, reminiscent of classic open sports cars. The driver headrest also shines through a technically designed Carbon rollover element to float. Behind lies the tailgate and the anchor points for a typical Speedster top. The two-tone design is also inspired by historic racing cars and the exterior mirrors were through Cameras replaced, which are placed on the fenders, similar to the historical models, but in newer, more aerodynamically optimized wing shape.
Vision 357 Speedster - the quintessence of the Porsche brand!
The other design elements of the exterior are reminiscent of the sister study: Das Four point light sign at the front pays tribute to that Porsche 356 tribute, with its round design and the Rear lights are embedded in a precise, milled pattern. The vertical grille in the rear visually reminiscent of the very first Porsche model series, and the third Brake light is seamlessly integrated into the grid. The wide track also gives the unique piece a robust impression and improves the driving stability. The 20 inchmagnesium wheels also come with carbon fiber bezels and central shutters. The inner space is reduced to the essentials and geared entirely to the driver.
The Seat is sporty deep and the seat shell made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic is integrated into the monocoque. The driver sits up Pads and is used by one Six-point harness secured with miami blue webbing and that instrument cluster is mounted as a transparent display on the steering column. Unveiled earlier this year, the Vision 357 announced that the design could indicate future directions in design philosophy. Whether the study serves as the basis for a limited special model - and whether this also applies to the Speedster - remains to be seen.
