“La Maison Pur Sang” program confirms Bugatti's authenticity!

The first Bugatti classic of the 21st century receives the “La Maison Pur Sang” certificate of authenticity: Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport 2.1. With the “La Maison Pur Sang” program, Bugatti confirms and preserves the original thoroughbred character of its historical and contemporary models. The first vehicle to go through the extensive process in Molsheim and receive proof of authenticity is a 2008 Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport. The Bugatti car brand can look back on a rich 110-year tradition and history and is aware of its responsibility to preserve historic and contemporary cult vehicles for the joy of future generations. At the Rétromobile Show 2020 in Paris, Bugatti presented its new “La Maison Pur Sang” program, with which the authenticity of models can be guaranteed.

La Maison Pur Sang program

Bugatti models have always been coveted collectibles. They have an eventful racing history or ownership history, usually both, and their unusual bodies and configurations often testify to an unconventional past. "Models that are restored to their original condition using original parts as required, are successful in prestigious competitions and continue to gain in value over the decades," explains Hendrik Malinowski, Head of Sales and Operations. For example, last year five historic Bugattis broke records at auction houses Bonhams and Gooding & Company: never before has a manufacturer dominated the top five places in the most expensive automobiles auctioned.

However, only authentic and certified models are accepted by car collectors. This applies not only to the models from Ettore Bugatti's time, but also to the vehicles that were created in the Campogalliano era, and will also be of decisive importance for the models manufactured in Molsheim in the 21st century. For this reason, Bugatti launched the “La Maison Pur Sang” program to prove authenticity.

Definition of a whole blood

The “La Maison Pur Sang” program is carried out exclusively at Bugatti's headquarters in Molsheim and confirms the authenticity of all models from Bugatti's glamorous history, regardless of their age. For customers and collectors, the program also includes an extensive range of optional services for restoration and reconfiguration.

The term “Pur Sang”, which means “thoroughbred” or “thoroughbred”, was the manifesto of the company's founder Ettore Bugatti, who used it to describe the high quality of the technical concept, the performance and the aesthetics of his creations. This fascination with the harmony of speed, elegance, safety and comfort can be felt in all Bugatti models over the decades.

History in its purest form

"Thanks to our extensive research and archive materials as well as the close contacts we have with Bugatti clubs, historians and collectors around the world, we can trace the history of every Bugatti model and determine its authenticity, regardless of age," explains Luigi Galli, who is responsible for the “La Maison Pur Sang” program in Molsheim.

The first project carried out by “La Maison Pur Sang” focused on an extraordinary hyper sports car from Bugatti's recent history - the first prototype of the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport. At its world premiere in 2008 at Pebble Beach, California, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport showed a completely new dimension of luxurious high-performance driving fun with an open top.

The unregistered demonstration car with its sensational paintwork in White Silver Metallic and the cognac leather upholstery in the interior was called "Grand Sport 2.1." And presented all over the world: It traveled from North America through Europe to the Middle East.

Back in Molsheim

In 2020 Bugatti bought back the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport 2.1 and brought it back to Molsheim, where it was the first model to go through the new “La Maison Pur Sang” program. For this, the vehicle was completely dismantled. The authenticity of the vehicle was not only confirmed by checking the vehicle identification number (VIN), but it was also checked whether the identification numbers on the key components were correct. Since the studio in Molsheim can boast expertise in restoration, painting, metalwork and leather processing that is unmatched anywhere in the world, the location is ideal for carrying out this work.

In Molsheim, the “La Maison Pur Sang” team worked for four months to restore the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport 2.1 to the original condition it was in when it was launched in 2008. With regard to the exterior, the restoration included the dismantling, preparation and repainting of the body panels. Inside, the passenger compartment was completely overhauled and received new leather upholstery as well as revised leather and aluminum parts. In addition, a new center console was installed according to the original configuration 1.0 of the model. “Following official confirmation that the vehicle is a significant historical model and the prototype that was unveiled worldwide at the launch of the Veyron Grand Sport in 2008, the car quickly attracted the attention of various passionate collectors and became virtually instantaneous sold ”, says Galli.

Protection of authenticity and increase in value

When Bugatti confirms the authenticity of the vehicle and awards it the coveted "La Maison Pur Sang" certificate of authenticity, owners and collectors not only have the certainty that they are in possession of an original model, but can also benefit from a significant increase in the value of the highly exclusive hyper sports cars from Bugatti. To find out more about the “La Maison Pur Sang” program in Molsheim, customers are invited to contact their Bugatti partners or the factory directly.
