In Germany, the BMW 5 Series (E12) was introduced in 1972, but in Japan it was not available until 1973. And now, 50 years later, BMW is presenting one 50th Anniversary Edition especially for the land of the rising sun. Specifically, it is a limited version of the 523d xDrive as a G30 sedan and G31 touring. And the 530e M Sport (G30) is also available as a 50-year special. The vehicles are painted in the customized color Tanzanite Blue and stand on 20-inch M light-alloy wheels type 846 M with a two-tone finish. In the cabin, BMW Japan refers to the special model with a "50th Anniversary" plaque in the area of the iDrive controller and the seats are also wrapped in perforated Sensatec (artificial leather).
50th Anniversary Edition
The dashboard and the center console are upholstered in poplar gray and there is always a four-zone air conditioning system and a Harman Kardon surround sound system. In general, the vehicles of the edition are quite lavishly equipped. A right-hand drive 5 Series automatic is said to cost ¥9.450.000 (approx. €67.850) as the 523d sedan, and the 530e sedan is approximately €9.710.000 more expensive at ¥69.780 (approx. €2.000). The 523d Touring 50 Years Edition costs ¥9.830.000 (approx. €70.620). This should be one of the last Sound editions be released on the basis of the current 5 series, because the next model generation (G60 & G61) is already in the starting blocks.
