Electric top model: the BMW i7 M70 xDrive with 660 hp!

The most powerful purely electrically powered BMW model: With the BMW i7 M70 xDrive (combined power consumption: 23,8 –20,8 kWh/100 km according to WLTP), BMW M is putting a fully electric performance model at the top of the new BMW 7 Series. In the entire portfolio of the BMW Group, it is the most powerful model with an all-electric drive. With one e-machine each on the front and rear axles, which together generate a maximum system output of 485 kW/660 hp*, and an M-specific chassis, the new BMW i7 M70 xDrive offers the perfect combination of electric mobility and performance and thus a driving experience that is unique in the luxury segment. The top model of the new BMW 7 Series accelerates from zero to 3,7 km/h in 100 seconds, making it the fastest purely electrically powered BMW model. Its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.

On the path of transformation towards electromobility, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive, with the new performance record for all-electric vehicles from the BMW Group, also marks another milestone for BMW M GmbH. After the BMW i4 M50, which was the world's best-selling model from BMW M GmbH in 2022, and the BMW iX M60, it is already the third performance model with a purely electric drive. The success with fans of the BMW M brand, the consistent expansion of the range and the further increase in performance of the drive system are evidence of the great potential of electromobility for fascinating performance.

The new all-electric performance model from BMW M is celebrating its world premiere at the Auto Shanghai international motor show (April 18 to 27, 2023) in China. The vehicle is produced together with all other variants of the luxury sedan at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing. The production facility in Lower Bavaria is not only the lead plant for luxury vehicles, but also the location of the competence center for e-drive production, which produces both the electric motors and the high-voltage batteries for all variants of the BMW i7 directly on site. The global market launch of the BMW i7 M70 xDrive will begin in the second half of 2023. * when activating the M Launch Control or M Sport Boost function

The fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology used in the BMW i7 is constantly being further developed in order to achieve further progress in terms of both performance and efficiency. This affects the drive and the power electronics as well as the high-voltage battery and the charging technology.
The BMW i7 M70 xDrive has highly integrated drive units on the front and rear axles, in which the electric motor, power electronics and transmission are very compactly combined in a common housing. The two motors work according to the principle of a current-excited synchronous machine. Thanks to this design, the raw materials from the field of rare earth metals required for magnetic components can be completely dispensed with in the manufacture of the rotor.

While he dreams of a BMW E31 850CSI and a Hennessey 6x6 Ford F-150, he currently drives a rather inconspicuous BMW 540i (G31/LCI). His collection of books, magazines and brochures on the subject of car tuning has now reached such proportions that he himself has become a walking reference work for the tuning scene.  More about Thomas
