BMW M2 CS (F87) Racing from 2021 in its own NLS Cup!

After the current season of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) unfortunately had to end prematurely due to the pandemic, it will receive a new attraction from the 2021 season. Then the BMW M2 CS Racing, the new entry-level vehicle in the BMW M Customer Racing product range, will compete on the Nordschleife (GER) as its own one-make cup. The BMW M2 CS Racing Cup replaces the BMW M240i Racing Cup, which has been extremely successful and attractive over the years. The contract between VLN and BMW M Customer Racing runs for three years. A novelty: For the first time, two different performance levels of the vehicle are approved for the Cup. The exclusive tire partner for the BMW M2 CS Racing Cup is Michelin.

“I am very pleased that we can continue the tradition of our own BMW Cup class from 2021 with the BMW M2 CS Racing as the successor to the BMW M240i Racing. Our new entry-level vehicle, which BMW M and BMW Motorsport jointly developed, is a real racing car from the ground up. We have created the perfect basis for this with the BMW M2 CS at BMW M GmbH, ”says Markus Flasch, Managing Director of BMW M GmbH. “In order to make the best possible use of the possibilities offered by the racing version of the BMW M2 CS, we are sending vehicles with two different performance levels into the race for the first time in the history of the Cup. This gives both Nordschleife rookies and experienced drivers the opportunity to show their skills at the wheel. I am particularly pleased that we can offer our customers planning security for three years by concluding a contract with those responsible at VLN and have found a strong and trusted tire partner in Michelin for the same period. This is more important than ever in today's difficult times for motorsport. "

Martin Maffert, Michelin Motorsport Manager for the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), says: "We are very pleased to be the exclusive tire partner for the new BMW M2021 CS Racing Cup from the 2 season. Michelin has a long-standing and successful partnership with BMW Motorsport, and on the new BMW M2 CS Racing with high-performance tires we will make our contribution to experiencing exciting motorsport on the most demanding racetrack in the world."

Total prize money 100.000 euros

In addition to the total prize money of 100.000 euros paid by BMW M Customer Racing for the five best teams, Michelin is awarding a racing tire bonus for each of the three best teams. Over the course of the season, this amounts to a total value of around 28.000 euros. This makes participation in the BMW M2 CS Racing Cup even more financially attractive. A very special innovation is the division of the cup into two performance levels. The BMW M2 CS Racing can be used both as a "Permit B" vehicle with 365 hp and as a "Permit A" vehicle with 450 hp. As a result, the BMW M2 CS Racing on the one hand continues to offer Nordschleife beginners the opportunity to do their first laps on the way to the “Permit A”. On the other hand, Nordschleife connoisseurs can use the stronger variant to pursue racing at a higher level in the “Green Hell”. For ambitious drivers, the 450 hp vehicle also offers a smooth transition to the BMW M4 GT4.

BMW M2 CS Racing Cups guaranteed for 2021 to 2023

According to the contract, the BMW M2 CS Racing Cup is guaranteed to be held for the seasons 2021 to 2023. In addition to the NLS, it will again be part of the highlight event, the 24 hours on the Nürburgring including the 6-hour qualification race. However, as usual, no points will be awarded for the cup classification.
