BMW X1 and iX1!
With its robust appearance and versatile functionality, the new BMW X1 conveys an authentic experience of freedom and independence in everyday traffic and when travelling. The progressive design and the high-quality ambience of its interior as well as the significantly expanded standard equipment compared to the previous model underline its mature premium character.
For the market launch in October 2022, there will initially be a choice of two petrol and two diesel engines, which are combined as standard with a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch and, depending on the model, transfer their power to the road via the front wheels or the intelligent all-wheel drive BMW x Drive. Not only the all-electric BMW iX1 xDrive30, but also two plug-in hybrid models and two other variants with conventional drive and 48-volt mild hybrid technology will follow immediately afterwards. The new BMW X1 will be produced at the BMW Group plant in Regensburg, where for the first time models with combustion engines, plug-in hybrid systems and purely electric drives will be produced on one production line.
With the BMW iX1, locally emission-free driving pleasure can be experienced in a vehicle segment that is growing worldwide and can therefore be experienced by a particularly broad target group. As a result, the compact SAV with the latest BMW eDrive technology provides strong impetus for a forced ramp-up of electromobility. In addition to the consistent electrification, the increased use of green electricity in production and in the supply chain as well as the increased use of secondary raw materials and natural materials contribute to the progress made in the area of sustainability compared to the previous model.
Design: Modern surface design, increased presence and robust charisma in the typical style of a BMW X model.
In the third model generation, surface design, lines and high-quality details in the exterior design of the BMW X1 signalize its identity as a Sports Activity Vehicle more than ever. The characteristic features include the powerful proportions, wheel arches with almost square contours and the design of the front and rear that is typical of BMW X models. With its upright front end, the new BMW X1 clearly gains in presence. It is characterized by flat LED headlights, a large, almost square BMW kidney grille, X-shaped lines extending outwards and eye-catching chrome clips in the lower air intake. Adaptive LED headlights with matrix high beam, pulsating direction indicators and variable light distribution are optionally available.
Expressively modeled surfaces and a long roof line characterize the dynamically stretched silhouette of the new BMW X1. From the rear, horizontal lines, the flat pane of the luggage compartment lid, striking LED lights and flared wheel arches create a typical SAV impression. The robust charisma of the new BMW X1 can be emphasized particularly intensively with the specific design features of the xLine model, which include an optical underbody protection. In addition, as an alternative to the basic equipment, the M Sport model is also available, which, among other things, sets the tone for dynamic driving pleasure with large cooling air openings.
All model variants have 17-inch light-alloy wheels as standard. 18-inch light-alloy wheels are part of the equipment scope of the xLine and M Sport models, for which 19-inch and – for the first time for the BMW X1 – 20-inch wheels are also available. There are two plain and ten metallic variants to choose from for the exterior paint finish, including a frozen paint finish from BMW Individual for the first time.
Interior: Progressive ambience, space that can be used in a variety of ways.
The raised seating position and the progressive premium ambience in the style of the BMW iX contribute to the characteristic driving experience in the interior of the compact SAV. Central elements of this redesign are the flat dashboard, the BMW Curved Display, the armrest with an integrated control panel that appears to be floating and the indirectly illuminated smartphone system in the front area of the center console. The newly developed seats are optionally available in perforated Sensatec or Vernasca leather. There is also a choice of sports seats, electric seat adjustment with memory function, lumbar support and a massage function. In addition to acoustic comfort, occupant protection has also been optimized. The integrated concept for passive safety now also includes a new interaction airbag between the driver and front passenger seats.
The rear of the new BMW X1 offers three full seats with noticeably increased seating comfort. The rear seat backrest, which can be split 40:20:40, can be tilted and folded down to expand the luggage compartment. The longitudinal adjustment of the rear seats, which is available as an option for the models with pure combustion engine drive, ensures even more variability. The storage volume can be expanded from 540 to up to 1 liters. A trailer hitch is offered as an optional extra, which for the first time in the new BMW X600 swings in and out at the push of a button and is electrically operated.
2-zone automatic air conditioning, sports steering wheel and BMW maps as standard.
The BMW Maps navigation system, a sports leather steering wheel, intelligently controlled 2-zone automatic air conditioning and a rain sensor with automatic headlight control are standard equipment in the new generation of the BMW X1, as are four USB-C and two 12-volt connections and one significantly increased number of driver assistance systems compared to the previous model. Newly structured equipment packages enable targeted customization of the vehicle. A mirror package, ambient light, the panoramic glass roof and the Harman Kardon Sound System also contribute to increasing the premium characteristics.
BMW iX1: A new era of driving pleasure in the compact SAV.
The BMW iX1 xDrive30 is the brand's first all-wheel drive electric vehicle in the premium compact segment. Two highly integrated drive units on the front and rear axles together generate a power output that, including a temporary boost, amounts to 230 kW/313 hp. The system torque is 494 Nm. The electric all-wheel drive ensures superior traction, directional stability and driving stability in every situation. The BMW iX100 xDrive1 accelerates from a standing start to 30 km/h in 5,7 seconds.
The fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology also includes highly efficient charging technology with charging software that has been further optimized in the same way as the BMW i7, and a high-voltage battery arranged flat in the vehicle underbody, whose high energy density enables a range of 413 to 438 kilometers. (The details of the power, performance, energy consumption and range of the BMW iX1 xDrive30 are forecasts based on the vehicle's current development status.)
Plug-in hybrid models with increased electric range, petrol and diesel engines with 48-volt mild hybrid technology.
Fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology is also used in the plug-in hybrid models of the new BMW X1. As a result, significant progress has been made in terms of sportiness, efficiency and charging capacity compared to the previous generation. The electric range has also been significantly increased. At the launch of the new BMW X1, the portfolio of conventional combustion engines includes two petrol and two diesel engines from the BMW Group's new modular generation of Efficient Dynamics engines. The efficiency and power development of the two most powerful drive units are optimized using second-generation 48-volt mild hybrid technology, whose electric motor is integrated into the 7-speed Steptronic transmission.
This means that the four-cylinder BMW X1 xDrive23i model has an output of 160 kW/218 hp (generated jointly by the combustion engine with up to 150 kW/204 hp and the integrated electric motor with up to 14 kW/19 hp). Also on offer: the new BMW X1 sDrive18i, powered by a 100 kW/136 hp three-cylinder engine. A four-cylinder diesel engine and mild hybrid technology in the new BMW X1 xDrive23d ensure a maximum output of 155 kW/211 hp (generated jointly by the combustion engine with up to 145 kW/197 hp and the integrated electric motor with up to 14 kW/19 hp ). The four-cylinder diesel engine in the new BMW X110 sDrive150d delivers 1 kW/18 hp.
All-rounder with an ideal combination of agility and driving comfort.
Irrespective of their drive type, all models of the new BMW X1 demonstrate brand-typical driving behavior that is consistent in every situation. The high-quality chassis technology of the compact all-rounder ensures maximum harmony between sporty, agile handling and long-distance comfort. The prerequisites for this are given by the weight and rigidity-optimized construction of the body, the long wheelbase and the increased track widths compared to the previous model as well as the targeted further development of the single-joint spring strut axle installed at the front and the three-link rear axle. Traction and driving stability of the new BMW X1 benefit from the standard actuator-related wheel slip limiter. Other innovations include the integrated braking system and the stroke-dependent additional damping on the front axle. The optionally available Adaptive M suspension includes frequency-selective damping, sports steering and a lowering of 15 millimeters.
Large variety of systems for automated driving and parking.
The technological progress compared to the previous model is also reflected in a significantly increased variety of systems for automated driving and parking that can be used in the BMW X1. Standard features include cruise control with braking function and front collision warning, the range of functions of which now also includes detecting oncoming traffic when turning left and pedestrians or cyclists when turning right. The Parking Assistant including reversing camera and reversing assistant is also part of the standard equipment.
Options include the steering and lane guidance assistant, active cruise control with stop & go function, active navigation guidance, exit warning, the BMW Head-Up Display and the Surround View, Remote 3D View, BMW Drive Recorder and Remote Theft Recorder functions to disposal. Remote software upgrades can be used to improve existing functions and add new functions. (Availability depends on the hardware installed in the vehicle and market conditions).
Standard: BMW Operating System 8 and the new BMW iDrive.
With the standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus, the latest-generation BMW iDrive multi-sensory vehicle experience is also available in the new BMW X1. It is based on the BMW Operating System 8 and includes the BMW Curved Display with modern graphics and menu structure as well as the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with extended capabilities. The fully digital display network consists of the 10,25-inch information display and the control display with a diagonal of 10,7 inches. The new BMW iDrive is consistently designed for intuitive touch operation and voice control. The consistent digitization enables a significant reduction in the physical buttons, controls and switches required for operation.
The new My Modes combine individually selectable vehicle settings with corresponding interior worlds of experience. The cloud-based BMW Maps navigation system can optionally be supplemented with the Augmented View function. An interior camera enables snapshots of the occupants and the transmission of interior images to the customer's smartphone. In addition, a personal eSIM designed for the 1G mobile communications standard, the BMW Digital Key Plus, the BMW ID and smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ can be used in the new BMW X5.
