Chip Foose Hemisfear: Design Masterpiece Sold!

Introduced in 2006, the Chip Foose Hemisfear, or simply called the "Foose Coupe" (Foose Rod), is a beautiful example of the artistry and creativity of legendary American automotive designer Chip Foose. Born from the mind of a man with an extraordinary passion for vehicle design, the masterpiece represents Foose's commitment to performance, beauty and craftsmanship. The idea for the Hemisfear was first born when Foose was still a student at the renowned Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. The original concept car, dubbed "The Hemisphere", was actually his thesis. Almost 16 years later, Foose Design introduced the finalized version, now known as the Hemisfear.

Visually, the Hemisfear is a blend of hot-rod aesthetics and European sports car styling, making it unique and instantly recognizable. The stunning silhouette with the strikingly sloping roof and rearward-positioned cabin is reminiscent of classic racing cars of the 60s. The Hemisfear's proportions have been carefully chosen to create a strong visual impact, enhanced by its exquisite detailing and fine build qualities. The Hemisfear is typically powered by a 6,4-liter Hemi-Mopar V8 mounted in the rear of the car. A transparent pane allows a view of the HEMI engine. There was also a 5,4L DOHC Ford V8.

The engine, built by Chrysler, is capable of producing 425 to 485 hp. Combining a lightweight design with a powerful V8, the Hemisfear delivers impressive driving performance. It also has a 5-speed manual gearbox and has independent front and rear suspension. The chassis is made of aluminum while the body is made of composite fiberglass. The combination of materials ensures both low weight and high structural strength.

interior and equipment

The interior of the Hemisfear is as impressive as its exterior. Every aspect of the cabin, from the leather seats to the aluminum dashboard, has been carefully designed and handcrafted to create a distinctive and luxurious vehicle character. The Hemisfear is also equipped with modern conveniences such as air conditioning, power steering and power brakes to ensure comfort despite the classic design.

Only 50 examples of the Hemisfear were ever built, making it a rare and sought-after car for collectors and enthusiasts. This has already resulted in the few existing Hemisfear vehicles on the market often trading at substantial prices. And one of them, a 2011 example, was recently put up for sale on the Mecum platform. The vehicle was expected to fetch as much as $350.000, but it didn't quite reach that amount. At 313.500 US dollars, the sum was still considerable.

this is the Chip Foose Hemisfear (2008):

  • Elaborately painted "Real Flames" flames and carbon trimmings on the exterior.
  • 1.200 kg lightweight mid-engine rod.
  • Price for a single piece at the time was around 300.000 US dollars.
  • Propulsion: Either an OHV V8, 392 ci, 6.423 cc (MoPar) or a DOHC V8, 5,4 L (Ford), both with mid-engine and a ZF five-speed manual transmission, rear-wheel drive.
  • Chassis: Independent wheel suspension, Koni gas pressure dampers, Baer disc brakes.
  • Wheels: Foose 8×20″ front with 225/40 Pirelli PZero, rear 12×20″ with 315/35 Pirelli PZero.
