Admittedly - even years after its presentation, the BMW i8 still triggers a smile from drivers of an Audi R911, Lamborghini Huracan or Porsche 8. The recent facelift with an increase in performance to 374 hp (Plug-in hybrid drive) precious little. But we find that a little unfair because in comparison with a 991 Carrera, in terms of acceleration values, the R8 does not do any differently and if it were not electronically governed, more than the usual 250 km / h would be possible. Only the three-cylinder unit is responsible for the heated discussions and the aforementioned "smile" in various forums and round tables.

In doing so, “man” almost always forgets that the i8 wants to be future-oriented and not a direct opponent of established sports cars. The guys from Maxklusiv & mbDESIGN have now grabbed an i8 (cooperation project) and show us, after the i8 by Vossen Wheels, now the next spectacularly converted i8 within just a few days. An important criterion for the i8 was to replace the factory-made “split tablets” in the 7,5 × 20-inch format with 215/45 R20 tires with a “real” set of wheels. This is where mbDESIGN comes into play with their KV3.3 rims in the format 9 × 21 inches on the front axle and 10 × 21 inches in the rear including Continental Sport Contact 6 slippers in the format 245 / 30R21 and 255 / 30R21 on the i8.

The KV3.3 is a three-piece forged rim with glossy black rim stars and polished stepped beds that sit consistently in the wheel arch thanks to heavy lowering. By the way, the spokes of the new wheelset allow you to take a look at the gaudy yellow calipers of the i8, which skilfully pick up the color of the hub caps. The huge lowering of the athlete reaches Maxclusive, as well as the X2 (F39), with an Airride air suspension. Specifically, it is a G-Ride air suspension that is based on AirREX struts and is regulated with a 4-channel controller including electronic level regulation. And if Maxklusiv is involved in a vehicle, then, of course, foiling should not be missing.

It was decided to opt for a striking PWF exclusive hue called "Blue Pepper", which blends in with many bright black lacquered accents. Also responsible for the contrast is the chic carbon body kit that gives the I8 a front spoiler lip, a rear diffuser, side skirts and a fixed rear wing. And the yellow of the calipers finds its place in the interior. Here is the Heigo aluminum roll bar with cross and the Airride air tank placed underneath painted in yellow and refreshes the interior skillfully. And finally, there was even a performance increase of PP Performance which ensures that the hybrid system instead 362 PS now hard 420 PS delivers.

And the soundscape can also be seen (and listen) let because the 1,5 three-cylinder cylinder got its own Maxklusiv Downpipe in combination with a Fi Exhaust flap exhaust system that can be conveniently controlled by smartphone app. With this cooperation project, Maxklusiv and mbDESIGN will present a particularly spectacular i8, which, however, still brings with it a degree of understatement as we find it.   • mbDESIGN KV3.3 rims (three-piece, 9 × 21 and 10 × 21 inches, gloss black painted stars, polished step beds)
  • Tires Continental Sport Contact 6 (245 / 30R21 and 255 / 30R21)
  • Heigo-aluminum roll bar (custom-made)
