Lamborghini Squadra Corse has unveiled the first technical specifications of its LMDh project for the upcoming entry into the FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar class and the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship GTP class. In accordance with the LMDh regulations of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) and the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the vehicle will be equipped with a hybrid drive system consisting of a combustion engine and a Energy recovery system with a maximum total output of 500 kW (681 hp). In addition to the one-stop ERS kit, Lamborghini has opted for an 8-cylinder, twin-turbo, 90-degree V-angle internal combustion engine fully developed by the company's motorsport division, Squadra Corse.

Automobili Lamborghini will implement hybridization in road vehicle production in the future. The LMDh represents a specific energy/performance project for the company, which is based on the developments and experiences of future generations of sports cars and is therefore fully integrated into the Cor Tauri corporate strategy. Squadra Corse is taking a step into the future of motorsport, driven by hybrid powertrains, and fits in perfectly with Lamborghini's transition to hybridization.

The main ERS components of the homologated LMDh standard kit cover several areas, with the electric motor (MGU) being developed by Bosch Motorsport. Power management and energy storage are supplied by Williams Advanced Engineering, while the P1359 seven-speed hybrid transmission was developed by Xtrac. The car, which will debut in 2024 in the IMSA Sports Car Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship, has a top speed of 340 km/h and, according to the regulations, weighs 1030 kg without fuel. The vehicle will have a maximum width of 2.000 mm and a length of 5.100 mm. The wheelbase will be 3.148 mm and the engine weight will be at least 180 kg.

Base vehicle developed with Ligier Automotive

The base vehicle (backbone) was co-developed with Ligier Automotive and the carbon fiber elements are made in Italy by HP Composites, long-time partner of Squadra Corse on the GT3 and Super Trofeo platforms. The decision to work with Ligier Automotive has allowed Lamborghini Squadra Corse to enter the top tier of endurance racing with an established chassis supplier. Furthermore, Ligier Automotive's competent and flexible structure (with specific touchpoints to Squadra Corse) made the partnership a logical choice for the LMDh project.
