For the new model year, Porsche extensively refreshed the fully electric Taycan last September. Now those Taycan customers can also benefit from the main innovations, whose electric sports cars were already delivered in the 2020 model year. Porsche makes the free software update available worldwide. It includes improvements in driving dynamics, new intelligent charging functions, expanded features for Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and additional Porsche Connect services.
From chassis to navigation: the new features of the update at a glance
For Taycan models with adaptive air suspension, the update includes the new one Smart lift function. This allows the Taycan to be programmed so that it is automatically raised at certain recurring points such as road thresholds or garage driveways. The updates also include an optimized Landing gear control. It improves the slip control and thus also the acceleration values of the Taycan Turbo S. The sprint from zero to 200 km / h in conjunction with Launch Control takes 9,6 seconds and is 0,2 seconds faster than before.
The way food is Charging Planner-Functions are expanded. From now on, for example, you can set the charge level with which the Taycan should reach the specified destination. During a charging process with active route guidance, the driver receives a message in the vehicle and in the app as to when the necessary charge level for the remaining route has been reached and when the journey can continue. With the new function Battery-saving charging the charging power can be reduced from up to 270 kW to 200 kW on request. The resulting lower battery temperature leads to gentler battery charging and a particularly efficient charging process. An onboard alternating current charger (AC) with 22 kW will be optionally available for retrofitting in selected markets from the end of 2021.
Fine tuning for the navigation as well
Fine tuning is also available for them Navigate: For example, the display of online information directly on the map as well as lane-accurate traffic information. And at Entertainment Anyone who has linked their Apple ID to the Taycan can now use the Apple Podcasts (including video streaming) and Apple Music Lyrics functions. With Wireless Apple CarPlay, iPhone apps are now available via a wireless connection in Porsche Communication Management (PCM).
The update also includes significant software optimizations for numerous control units. The transmission must then be adapted and the drive components calibrated. Therefore, this update takes place as part of a free workshop visit to the Porsche centers.
Updates via Functions on Demand (FoD)
Other updates are basically also possible in the Taycan of the current model year via Functions on Demand (FoD). This flexible upgrade works “over-the-air” after purchase and the original configuration of the sports car. Current FoD functions in addition to the Porsche Intelligent Range Manager (PIRM) are Power Steering Plus, Active Lane Guidance and Porsche InnoDrive. Customers can choose whether they want to buy the respective function for their Taycan or book it as a monthly subscription. The latter includes three months of testing. After registration, the selection of the desired function (s) in the Porsche Connect Store and the appropriate connectivity, the Porsche backend sends a data packet to the Taycan via the cellular network. The driver is informed of its availability via Porsche Communication Management (PCM). Activation takes a few minutes. After successful activation, a message appears once in the central display.
