Tuning rarity: Porsche 962 Koenig Special C62 is for sale!

Should someone just get one real racing car looking for street legal, then this would be Porsche Koenig Specials C62 maybe just the thing. There are only three copies of it and all three, although they are real racing cars, are street legal. And one of these copies is currently for sale. The basic vehicle is a 962, which was developed by Porsche in 1984 on the basis of the FIA Group C vehicle 956 in order to participate in the American IMSA racing series (International Motor Sports Association) to participate. As the IMSA regulations stipulated that, with regard to the safety requirements, the pedals must move behind the front axle and a roll cage should protect the aluminum monocoque, extensive changes were made.

In terms of costs, Porsche threw out the water-cooled twin-turbo boxer from the 956 and replaced it with one air-cooled six-cylinder boxer with single turbo from the 935. Up to this point in time, the extremely successful 962 (51 victories) was a pure racing car. But small specialist companies like Willy Koenig from Munich have also built street-legal specimens. Koenig built exactly three copies as a C62 and one of them is now for sale.

At first glance, the C62 looks like the racing car from back then, but in reality it is all body parts replaced by your own. And so that the German road approval could be implemented, the tuner had to headlights and rear wing move clearly upwards. However, since this intervention worsened the aerodynamic balance, Koenig then had to underbody completely revise. There is now one on the street version for this purpose front flap to see and behind is one removable plexiglass hood upset. After all, it has to be possible to perform a small service somehow.

850.000 euros are an announcement

However, if major work has to be done on the engine, then the rear car fairing must still be completely dismantled, as in the case of a racing car. The red classic that is currently for sale is a 1991 right-hand drive with 3,4-liter engine and violent 650 PS. The engine is coupled to one manual circuit and of course will only rear axle driven. There is a contrast in the cabin that was not unusual for the time. Because everything is here blue synthetic leather lined. The seller is a sports car dealer with the name Issimi and the ready-to-drive Koenig C62 should cost just over 850.000 Euros.
