To this day, it is one of the most legendary British sports cars and was once the leading actor in a James Bond film. We're talking about Lotus spirit, the only production car in the world, the one Rear engine and front wheel drive owns. With its extreme wedge shape, which was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the super sports car of the 1970s still knows how to polarize today. For some it is a timeless classic, and for others it looks a bit too American designed for a European athlete. Nonetheless, it was built more or less unchanged for almost three decades and helped the then still very young British sports car brand to become world famous.

Deep, deeper, lotus!

Today we would like to introduce you to a very special example, which is based in Japan, more precisely in Nagano, the venue of the 1998 Winter Olympics, and which has been modified in a very special way by its owner. At first glance, the Esprit looks as if it is about to eat up the asphalt. He stands there broad and ultra-low, and leaves no doubt that he is really serious in the league of classic super athletes.

The esprit is a little in the style of the BMW M1 Procar held, but that's a coincidence, and it was not the intention of the tuner to draw any parallels with the legendary Munich. Rather, this is Painting, which could come from M-GmbH, a homage to the Rim forge SSR, of which the alloy wheels which are 16 inches (16 × 7,5) at the front and 17 inches (17 × 9,5) in diameter at the back. They are particularly noticeable turbofans called covers on the front rims, which serve to improve the cooling of the brakes, but are also an absolute design highlight on the Esprit.

The Airride chassis listen to the designation Air Cobra system and comes from the Japanese company Tanabe, and there were on the rear axle Shock absorber of a Mazda MX-5 installed in Japan under the name Mazda Eunos Roadster on sale is. With the low-flying aircraft you are definitely the star at every tuning meeting.

The performance is pretty poor for today's standards.

A pair of Four-cylinder turbo engine with a displacement of 2,2 liters drives the Esprit, and the output is maximum without modifications to the engine 214 PS. The maximum torque amounts to 271 Newton meter, and is therefore extremely poor by today's standards. But the weight is not exactly lush either, because the lightweight hardly brings you 1,3 tons on the scales, whereby the low performance values on paper also ensure rapid acceleration. The car, which, as mentioned above, has a rear engine and front-wheel drive, offers a lot of driving fun anyway, since Lotus was already playing in the Champions League in terms of driving dynamics.

Our Conclusion to this slammed lotus esprit:

Very brave, which the Japanese tuner, only known as Tsuchida-san, dared to do. In our opinion, the project is extremely cool and absolutely exotic. You won't find something like this a second time.
