An old Chevrolet Chevrolet can certainly not be compared with a corresponding Corvette on the popularity scale. On the contrary, it's near the end of the list. Because it is just a small car that has nothing to do with the Corvette. But for the Chevette in England there were even engines above the 70 hp mark, as they were installed in the USA. The initiative came from then Vauxhall who, as a GM subsidiary, were allowed to build their own Chevette. It was developed in cooperation with Blydenstein Racing and was called the Chevette HS. It was a homologation special (for Group 4 racing) and had a tuned 2,3-liter four-cylinder with twin Stromberg carburetors under the hood that produced 135 hp. And now there's an even more powerful Chevette. Namely the vehicle from the video below.
black Vauxhall Chevette with 290 hp
This is a one-off built by British company RetroPower. The one-off Chevette is inspired by the WRC Chevette and features ultra-wide fenders and lots of modern components under the sheet metal. In addition, it is completely wrapped in black and under the hood sits a heavily modified C20XE "Red Top" engine. The engine was then a special version that Cosworth was developing for motorsport and various Chevrolet and Opel cars were powered by it in the WTCC championship. The four-cylinder from the video vehicle has a displacement of 2,3 liters and was built by Paul Exon. It delivers about 290 hp and pushes the light compact car forward properly.
