Among other things, Ford will be present at this year's Festival of Speed in Goodwood, southern England, with the particularly powerful next-generation Ranger Raptor pick-up - and also with the so-called "Very Gay Raptor" (VGR). This is a rainbow wrapped Ford Ranger Raptor model, showing the company's longstanding commitment to the LGBTQ+ community. The traditional mountain race is known far beyond the classic car scene and is an international exhibition venue for classic and contemporary vehicles. This year, the world's largest event of its kind will take place from 23 to 26 June 2022.
VERY GAY RAPTOR
Ford uses the presence of the VGR at the event to initiate important discussions and to actively counteract discrimination against people who feel they belong to the LGBTQ+ community. A central element are "Tough Talks" roundtables, which are intended to promote an open and inclusive atmosphere in the Ford exhibition area. The talks will be moderated by Welsh rugby legend Gareth Thomas, who was the first rugby union player to openly come out as gay. The "Tough Talks" format will explore, among other things, how the automotive industry can create and expand an inclusive culture for the LGBTQ+ community. Guests include racing driver Abbie Eaton, comedian Catherine Bohart and Lord March - son of the Duke of Richmond, who founded the Goodwood Festival of Speed as it is known today.
From mocking commentary to inclusion poster child
The "Very Gay Raptor" can look back on a unique history of origin. It all started with a Ford Ranger Raptor, whose Performance Blue livery was described as “very gay” by a user on social media. In response to this discriminatory comment, the company spontaneously responded with an animation in which a blue Ford Ranger Raptor was covered in gold dust and rainbow colors. With this, Ford set an example and unequivocally took sides with the LGBTQ community. The positive response to the online campaign was so overwhelming that Ford decided to actually make the colorful pick-up a reality. Since then, the national accounts have served as a tool to combat discrimination and as a flagship for inclusion. Its unique rainbow and gold dust design was given to the vehicle by Alphafoil, a Cologne-based supplier of special foils.
Twin-turbo 3,0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine
A new video from Ford puts the Very Gay Raptor and the next-generation Ranger Raptor together. Covered in copious amounts of mud, both vehicles offer a cinematic tête-à-tête on spectacular off-road paths - sometimes taking different paths, but each demonstrating their impressive capabilities regardless of their different identities. The next generation Ford Ranger Raptor, also premiered as the 'Very Gay Raptor' at Goodwood, makes its European debut at Goodwood in the famous hill climb. The pick-up is powered by a 3,0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with twin turbo, which develops an output of 215 kW (288 hp) and a maximum torque of 491 Nm. Photo credit: Ford
