2023 BMW R 1250 RS: more equipment in the sports tourer!

For more than 40 years, the abbreviation "RS" has been associated with the BMW boxer engine for sport touring par excellence. For the ultimate sporty, dynamic touring experience, the R 1250 RS is now even more innovative and sophisticated. In connection with the boxer engine, the legendary BMW Motorrad abbreviation "RS" is synonymous in the world of sport touring with par excellence for sporty, dynamic riding fun on country roads and at the same time supreme comfort on extended tours. A sporty pace with low inclines or long-distance stages par force for two and with holiday luggage - a BMW RS has always mastered both. To ensure that this remains the case in the future, BMW Motorrad has given the new R 1250 RS a number of new standard features and special equipment – for even more dynamic riding pleasure and relaxed sport touring enjoyment at the highest level.

As before, the legendary two-cylinder boxer engine ensures powerful propulsion. It still has a displacement of 1 cm3 and also has an output of 5 kW (100 hp) with the current EU136 approval. Thanks to BMW ShiftCam technology for varying valve control times and valve lift on the intake side, it offers natural power over the entire speed range, extremely smooth running and refinement as well as excellent consumption and emission values.

Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and new "ECO" driving mode as standard. Riding modes Pro with riding mode pre-selection and engine drag torque control (MSR) as special equipment.

The standard DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) ensures a high level of driving safety thanks to the best possible traction. With the new "ECO" driving mode, which is now also standard, the driver is encouraged and encouraged to drive as fuel-efficiently as possible.

With the ECO riding mode, it is possible to use the innovative BMW Motorrad ShiftCam engine technology primarily in such a way that the maximum range can be achieved. In ECO mode, the driver is encouraged to drive with as little fuel consumption as possible with a smooth throttle response and moderate engine torque limitation. The TFT color display provides support in ECO mode with an efficiency display in the top status line. If there is a desire for maximum performance - for example when overtaking with a heavy load or uphill - the driving mode button can be used to quickly and easily switch to another driving mode.

As a factory option, the new R 1250 RS can be fitted with the Pro riding modes option. Among other things, it provides additional, individually configurable driving modes. With the driving mode pre-selection, the driver can put an individual selection of driving modes on the driving mode button. The engine drag torque control (MSR) is also part of the driving modes Pro. It can be used to safely avoid unstable driving conditions that can arise when coasting or downshifting due to excessive brake slip on the rear wheel.

BMW Integral ABS Pro (partly integral) and Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) as standard.

The R 1250 RS presents itself as a popular sports tourer in its latest edition with the standard BMW Integral ABS Pro. This is a braking system that offers even more safety when braking - even when leaning - and, so to speak, thinks even further ahead. With the further expansion of the driving mode concept, other new functions will also be added. For example, the extended adaptation of the ABS control characteristics to the respective driving mode. In addition, the dynamic brake assistant DBC (Dynamic Brake Control) also supports the driver during emergency braking manoeuvres. It offers even more safety when braking, even in difficult situations, by avoiding unintentional actuation of the accelerator. By intervening in the engine control, the drive torque is reduced during braking and the braking power on the rear wheel is fully exploited. This keeps the motorcycle stable and reduces braking distances.

These include the Core Screen "Sport" display, which provides real-time information about the driven and maximum lean angle, as well as control interventions - such as from ABS Pro or DTC. Newly designed LED direction indicators (also for the USA) and the iconic daytime running lights (not permitted in all countries; without the daytime running light function, the light icon is designed as a position light) round off the new series scope in the area of electrics and electronics.
