Comfortable all-rounder: the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally!

In the third episode of the web series Ducati World Première 2023, the manufacturer from Bologna presented the new one Multistrada V4 Rally. The newest member of the Multistrada family was developed by Ducati for lovers of long journeys. She is an unstoppable companion for adventures to conquer unexplored places and reach them with maximum comfort. she is the perfect motorcycle to explore the world without stopping at anything - alone or as a couple.

With the "rally" Ducati takes the globetrotter spirit of the Multistrada V4 to an even higher level. This is made possible by the improved rider and passenger comfort, increased range and off-road capabilities. The result is a motorcycle that is in its element both on dirt roads and in modern metropolises: the perfect choice for those who want to reach every destination with maximum comfort and maximum safety, without sacrificing the typical Ducati riding experience. And as with the entire Multistrada V4 family, the power (170 hp), reliability and maintenance costs (intervals every 60.000 km and oil service every 15.000 km/24 months) are beyond doubt.

In their element on every surface!

The "Rally" model of the Multistrada V4 lives up to its name and convinces with even better capabilities on all surfaces. The motorcycle is now even easier to control, especially on unpaved roads. This Multistrada has a semi-active chassis with a suspension travel increased to 200 mm, which provides more ground clearance. It became one new Power Mode developed specifically for off-road use. The driver gets up wider footpegs with a more pronounced profile and removable rubber inserts. The control strategy Skyhook DSS EVO works even more precisely and efficiently with this model. The Multistrada V4 Rally is also equipped with a Autoleveling function equipped, which guarantees a constant vehicle balance.

Thanks to this technology, the riding characteristics of the motorcycle remain constant, even when a passenger is riding along or luggage is being loaded. The Multistrada V4 Rally is thanks to the weight-optimized spoke rimn, which are part of the standard equipment, and the reinforced engine protection even more suitable for off-road use. With the new 30 liter aluminum tank, which blends harmoniously with the muscular and elegant forms of the motorcycle, it is possible to cover longer distances between refueling stops. The new Multistrada V4 Rally is ready to take on even the most remote roads.

More comfort for driver and passenger!

The Multistrada V4 Rally is that ideal motorbike for traveling as a couple and has been designed to take rider and passenger comfort to the highest level: with this in mind, the windshield has been redesigned (increased by 40mm in height and 20mm in width), the tail has been lengthened and the pannier hanger has been redesigned Set back to give the passenger more leg room. The new footpegs with rubber inserts reduce transmitted vibrations. In addition, thanks to the availability of different seats with different heights for driver and passenger and the lowering kit, the Multistrada V4 Rally can be adapted to any driver-passenger combination.

The minimum preload function, already introduced on the Multistrada V4 S in 2022, allows the rider to 'lower' the bike when stopping and at low speed by minimizing the preload of the shock absorber. The Multistrada V4 Rally takes another step towards ease of use by offering the Easy lift function introduces which, by opening the suspension hydraulics, reduces the effort required to lift the motorcycle from the side stand thanks to the compression of the fork and shock absorber. To facilitate loading and unloading of the side cases and to facilitate maintenance work on long journeys away from home, this motorcycle is equipped with a central stand as standard.

The Ducati Multistrada family continues with the Rally model Standards in terms of technology and security. The Multistrada V4 was the first motorcycle in the world with a Front and rear radar system equipped to support Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), which makes driving long stretches less tiring. Blind Spot Detection (BSD) warns of vehicles in the blind spot. The 6,5" TFT color display allows the use of a mobile phone thanks to Ducati Connect. This supports navigation with map display, calls or listening to music via a helmet equipped with an intercom system. To further support active safety, the Multistrada V4 Rally is equipped with Cornering ABS, which allows the braking power of the system to be used even when cornering. Also included as standard are the Ducati Cornering Lights (DCL), which improve night-time visibility by illuminating the inside of the corner, Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) and Ducati Traction Control (DTC). These systems use the inertial platform (IMU) to optimize intervention based on the vehicle's lean and roll angle.

In order to use the potential of the Multistrada V4 optimally in every situation, Ducati four riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro). Of the Riding Mode Enduro has been completely revised for the Multistrada V4 Rally. Choosing the Riding Mode Enduro activates a special Power Mode that limits the power to 114 hp and allows a dynamic and direct response. The DSS Evolution chassis adopts the settings for off-road driving and displays this with an icon in the shape of an off-road helmet. The DTC works at a lower intervention level and the DWC is deactivated. The ABS on the rear wheel is also deactivated, as is the cornering function and the rear wheel lift-off detection. This means that the motorcycle is perfectly tuned for off-road riding.

At the Multistrada V4 Rally, the brand new extended rear bank deactivation strategy introduced - a technical solution used in the “Rally” for the first time in the world on a production motorcycle. In addition to deactivation of the rear cylinders at idle when the motorcycle is stationary (a feature already present on the Multistrada V4), the V4 Granturismo's rear bank of cylinders now remain deactivated in other operating conditions, with a positive impact on fuel consumption and emissions. With this new strategy, the deactivation also takes place while driving: when the speed increases or when a certain power requirement is reached at the throttle grip, the rear cylinders are reactivated in order to make the character and the full power of the V4 Granturismo available. This system is active in all Riding Modes.

Engine and chassis

The 1.158 cc V4 Granturismo delivers 170 hp (125 kW) at 10.750 rpm and 121 Nm at 8.750 rpm. The engine has a particularly linear torque curve that ensures smooth and progressive response at all engine speeds. With its performance combined with its weight of only 66,7 kg, the V4 Granturismo continues to set the benchmark for performance and lightness in its class. Added to this are sophisticated technical solutions, such as the counter-rotating crankshaft, based on Ducati Corse's experience in MotoGP, which works against the centrifugal inertia of the wheels, but also the specific torque curves dedicated to each individual gear to ensure smooth power delivery at low revs , to combine a rich torque at medium speeds and high performance at high speeds. When it comes to the chassis, the Multistrada V4 Rally relies on a light and compact aluminum monocoque frame with a double-sided cast aluminum swingarm. The Multistrada V4 Rally is offered exclusively with tubeless wire rims, which have been redesigned and lightened to improve their dynamic properties.

Facilities

  • The new Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally will be in three different versions offered: AdventureRadar, equipped with adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection, Adventure Travel & Radar, which is additionally equipped with aluminum panniers, heated grips and seats, while the full adventure the latter equipment is completed with an Akrapovic rear silencer and a carbon front mudguard.

The Multistrada V4 Rally not only has standard equipment that is exemplary for this category, but also a wide range of accessories. In addition to the different seats that meet the ergonomic needs of driver and passenger and are offered in three versions, there are different options for the windshield, a tubular steel engine guard, additional LED headlights, a satellite navigation device with a special bracket and various luggage solutions both for the tank and for the rear - top case or soft bag - for those who want to enhance the already very pronounced touring suitability of the Multistrada V4 Rally. It is also possible to make the Multistrada V4 Rally sportier and enhance its appearance with various carbon parts, machined aluminum levers and footpegs, dynamic LED indicators and brake and clutch fluid reservoirs machined from a solid block.

In order to fully exploit the Multistrada V4 Rally's travel capabilities, Ducati has developed specific clothing items. The Atacama C2 jacket/pants combo, for example, with large ventilation areas, detachable sleeves and three independent layers including a thermal lining and a waterproof membrane that offer comfort in all weather conditions. Or the jacket/pants combination Strada C5 made of comfortable stretch fabric, which is robust and flexible thanks to the removable Gore-Tex® inner membrane and a down jacket that can also be worn separately.

Availability

  • The Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally will be in dealerships from February 2023 in two colours: Ducati Red and Brushed Aluminum & Matt Black, the latter with an exposed brushed aluminum tank. Both color variants are delivered with black wire wheels. Like all Ducati Multistrada, the Multistrada V4 Rally comes with the “4|Ever Ducati” guarantee, valid for 4 years with unlimited mileage and backed by the service of the entire dealer network.
