BMW Panoramic Vision: New head-up display soon in series production!

The new BMW Head Up Display is called BMW Panoramic Vision and goes into series production with the first models of the NEW CLASS. This was confirmed by Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, during his speech at the 2023 annual conference. The BMW Group is currently developing a completely new technological platform for the NEUE KLASSE, whose name refers to the company's pioneering models of the 60s Electric vehicles that will set new standards in digitization, sustainability and design. The new head-up display, with its projection across the entire width of the windshield, creates a unique interaction and information area for all occupants.

Frank Weber, Board Member for Development at BMW AG, describes the main advantages of this revolutionary new head-up display as follows: "With our new BMW Panoramic Vision, the windscreen becomes a single large display that opens up completely new possibilities for designing our vehicles result. Be it that the driver himself decides which information he wants to show in the field of vision or that all occupants can see all content. The revolutionary projection and the significantly clearer cockpit result in an impressive new feeling of space and driving. We are raising our proven motto "eyes on the road - hands on the wheel" to a new level."

For the first time, the innovative projection technology allows all passengers to see displays across the entire width of the windshield. The BMW Panoramic Vision reflects the information relevant to the driver and passengers with high light and contrast intensity onto a dark coated area at the lower edge of the windscreen. This creates an extremely sharp image that is visible at all times over the full width of the windscreen. In addition, depending on the driving situation, the essential information is always in the right place at the right time.

In the new BMW iDrive operating system for the NEW CLASS, BMW Panoramic Vision stands for the typical BMW approach to driver orientation. The BMW Group was the first automobile manufacturer to develop the cockpit for a particularly intensive, safe and concentrated driving experience. On-board computers with digital displays first appeared in the BMW 7 Series in the 1980s. Like no other control system before it, the first BMW iDrive in 2001 comprehensively reduced the number of switches and buttons, thus ensuring a modern, tidy interior. The first series use of BMW head-up displays followed shortly afterwards. The new Head-Up Display BMW Panoramic Vision continues the success story of pioneering innovations of the BMW Group for the NEW CLASS.

With the BMW Panoramic Vision, the BMW Group is consistently developing the comprehensive BMW iDrive operating concept. At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas at the beginning of the year, the company presented its BMW i Vision Dee vision vehicle, showing how an extended head-up display can also be used for the display operating concept and an immersive user experience in the future. The study shows the merging of reality and the virtual world by turning the windshield into a projection screen. In the vehicles of the NEW CLASS, this technology is now becoming reality as a series version, the BMW Panoramic Vision.

At the IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich, the BMW Group will present further steps and new details on the way to the NEW CLASS.
