Truck diesel as a way to save money?

Truck diesel as a way to save money? In many places, motorists are rubbing their eyes at the current price development for fuel. The price level is higher than ever and many a diesel tanker is squinting Truck Diesel Gas Pump with the question of whether this fuel could also fill the car tank. Due to the war in Ukraine, prices continue to rise and even the release of oil reserves by the state was unable to stop or even reverse the trend. It seems to have the opposite effect: the diesel is now partly available at some gas stations significantly more expensive than premium petrol. In the case of truck diesel, on the other hand, it seems at some filling stations that the current crisis is having less of an impact on price developments, so that some drivers want to simply drive to this pump.

Expensive fuel prices: Is truck diesel an alternative?

The question that arises with the procedure is that of which technical feasibility: Can a car engine tolerate truck diesel? In principle, both fuels meet the same DIN standard, and they are therefore almost identical. Various additives that change the composition and chemical behavior of the diesel only become even more expensive premium fuels like Ultimate Diesel used by Aral, so no danger is to damage the car engine with the truck diesel. So if truck diesel accidentally or intentionally got into the car's tank, there is no reason to worry, especially since the petrol pumps for cars and trucks are mostly even from the same floor tanks to be fed.

Schuster, stick to your last: Reasons against truck diesel.

So why shouldn't you, as a car driver, simply head for the pump for trucks? One reason is technical nature: The nozzles for trucks are larger and usually do not fit into the tank opening of a car. In addition, the diesel is dispensed at the truck dispensers with higher pressure, since significantly more fuel fits into the tanks of large trucks and thus the waiting times for the drivers are to be reduced. So even if the pump nozzle should fit, the high pressure could cause the tank to overflow quickly and diesel to splatter around.

The second reason why drivers should stick to the car pump is that the supposedly cheap price is not necessarily cheaper in reality. The haulage companies often negotiate individual conditions with the gas stations, which you don't get as a car driver, and the price quoted is often only marginally cheaper than that for cars. In some places, truck diesel is at most a cent cheaper, and sometimes even more expensive. Basically, the price boards at the gas stations only serve to signal to the truck drivers that there is the possibility to fill up the fuel with larger nozzles and higher pressure at this gas station. They should not encourage drivers to drive to the wrong column.
