An excursion to the Nordschleife? You have to know that!

Since then, racing has been extremely attractive to many people. It is the sport that magically attracts them. This sport has become even better known through Formula 1, the DTM, the STW and whatever their names may be. And other racing sports such as rally & Co. have also become extremely popular. Thousands of spectators are happy to be there live and watch the races. And the most popular race track in Germany is definitely the Nürburgring. Maybe even the most popular racetrack in the world! It is one of the most demanding routes ever. The Nordschleife leads through the beautiful Eifel with dozens of curves. Here we explain to you what you have to watch out for during so-called tourist drives on the Nürburgring. Tourist drives are quite dangerous on the Nürburgring and require a lot of skill from the driver.

What is a tour trip?

On a tourist trip, as a private person you can drive the race track in your own car without a license. You will receive tickets on the Internet and on site that will give you the ultimate driving experience live. You can use the map you receive to open the barrier to the route and drive directly to the race track. There are various sections along the route that are fun and there is even the possibility to try your luck in a casino.

A registered insured vehicle, a driver's license and compliance with the road traffic regulations are the prerequisites for driving on the Nordschleife or the Grand Prix route on a tourist trip. The Green Hell, as the Nürburgring is also known, is open for tourist trips on more than 170 dates a year, which will be announced in good time. As a driver, you have to adhere to a code of conduct so that you are safe while driving and do not endanger other participants. In any case, save the emergency number 0800/0302 112 on your phone. So that you can call for help in the event of an accident. You should always count on that at the Nürburgring. The same applies to flashing. A faster car must be let through. With the turn signal you indicate in which direction you are turning to ensure that the faster car can be overtaken easily. Hundreds of cars are on the route at peak times because the tourist trips are very popular.

Insurance companies often reject damage

Note that although you drive on a racetrack, racing against the other cars is taboo. This can be expensive for you in the event of damage, because then you are not insured. In general, many car insurance policies exclude the assumption in the event of a claim if you were on the race track in a private vehicle. The Nürburgring presents an event calendar for every season. One thing is certain: Visitors to this racetrack can look forward to a varied event mix every year. In 2020, however, this will be somewhat different due to the Corona crisis. The operators will announce new dates in good time, if possible. It is currently said that the Nordschleife will open again tomorrow, April 30, 2020.

Which cars are suitable for a trip?

For the tourist trip on the Nürburgring, the operators do not specify the cars that are allowed to be driven. In general, you have two options. You use your own car or you rent a suitable vehicle on site. You can drive on the race track with any registered vehicle, including unusual vehicles such as a camper or bus. Of course, the fun is much greater when driving with a sporty vehicle. Even as a spectator, the tourist trip on the Nürburgring is always a nice event. Don't miss out on this experience. There is also a lot to experience alongside the racetrack. Of course it is a hit to prove yourself here as a driver.
