Shock absorber experts Rainer Popiol and Mustafa Yavuz provide important tips on how automotive professionals can offer their workshop customers the right shock absorbers.
BILSTEIN B4 standard replacement shock absorbers
Mustafa Yavuz from Technical Support at BILSTEIN should know. Every day, the master mechanic helps with questions about chassis and shock absorber technology, advises independent workshops and drivers. "In most cases, our BILSTEIN B4 series replacement shock absorber is the right choice," says Yavuz. "If the customer was satisfied with the driving characteristics of the intact standard chassis, then the B4 is exactly the right shock absorber. Ultimately, this restores the optimal driving experience like on the first day.” This shock absorber offers the highest original equipment manufacturer quality and has a high level of market coverage and availability, so that garages cannot do much wrong with it.
BILSTEIN B6 shock absorbers: improved standard replacement for high demands
The BILSTEIN B6 shock absorber offers higher power reserves for a variety of demanding everyday situations. With its special damper recognition, it is particularly suitable for vehicles that are regularly heavily loaded, towing a trailer - keyword caravans - or also for cars with gas tanks. The use of BILSTEIN B6 shock absorbers is also recommended for external loads such as a bicycle carrier with heavy e-bikes. Because of the additional weight in the rear area, the vertical load acting on the rear axle increases significantly, which impairs driving stability.
But sporty drivers also benefit from the improved driving characteristics. Special advantage: An additional spring change is not necessary and therefore no lowering. Since 2022, BILSTEIN B6 Camper and B6 Camper Advanced have also been a special product line especially for mobile homes. Yavuz: "For all these applications we have our BILSTEIN B6 high-performance shock absorber, which offers better damping performance and thus maximum driving stability and driving comfort. Just like the BILSTEIN B4, the BILSTEIN B6 does not need to be registered and can be installed according to the plug-and-play principle.”
Every vehicle application for the BILSTEIN B6 shock absorber is developed in the so-called BILSTEIN road test and has to pass an extensive test program, as the Head of the BILSTEIN Academy, Rainer Popiol, reveals: "The tests we carry out are unique in the aftermarket. Many other shock absorber manufacturers only increase the damping force to allow a higher load. At BILSTEIN, however, the driving behavior is extensively tested in a wide variety of driving situations in order to be able to work out the perfect characteristics.”
BILSTEIN B8: perfect standard replacement shock absorber for lowered vehicles
Based on the B6 shock absorber, BILSTEIN also developed the B8 shock absorber. "It is the perfect high-performance damper for particularly sporty driving," says Mustafa Yavuz. It is shortened and can thus ensure the preload of lowering or sport springs. The BILSTEIN B8 shock absorber is designed for almost all lowering spring sets and series sports suspension and offers a noticeable plus in terms of safety and sportiness.
