ABT Sportsline - Audi A5 Convertible with 330PS & 20 Zöllern

Owners of a current A5 convertible (type F5) can now literally "jump in the air" because ABT Sportsline has taken on the new convertible. If you translate the French word cabriolet, you get the meaning "jump in the air" which is more than appropriate. 330PS and really chic alloy wheels will make every A5 fan grin. The ABT Power "New Generation" is responsible for the full performance plus, which with its specially developed control unit ensures that the 2.0 TFSI is boosted to 330 PS (243 kW) and thus has as much power as the 3.0 TFSI compressor from its predecessor S5 (8T) . If you keep in mind the standard output of 252 PS (185 kW) & 370NM torque, this is a plus of more than 30 percent, which is pretty clear. Even the current 3.0-liter S5 with its 354PS & 500NM torque is not out of reach.

Incidentally, the maximum torque of the 2.0 TFSI grows from 370 to 440 Nm. If you opted for a diesel when configuring your A5, ABT has something in stock here too. For the diesel engines with 2.0 TDI or 3.0 TDI, there is also a decent performance package that also provides significantly more propulsion here. The 2.0 TDI achieves 215 PS (158 kW) & 440NM torque (series 190 PS & 400NM) and the larger 3.0TDI now delivers a lush 250 PS & 450 NM (series 218 PS & 400NM). And visually something will soon change because Hans-Jürgen Abt's team is currently tailoring a discreet aerodynamics package for the new A5 Convertible to match the more powerful engines. To make the wait a little sweeter, there are already various 19 and 20 inch light alloy wheels that bring additional individuality.

Currently available are the rim designs DR and ER-C in 19 as well as 20 inches and also the types FR and GR in 20 inches are available for the A5 convertible. Depending on the chosen model, different finishes are available (mystic black, gunmetal, silverbullet, matt black, glossy black). Incidentally, the new rims are fitted with high-end rubber from Dunlop or Continental. A nice gimmick is also the optional door entry lighting that projects the ABT logo when entering and exiting the street and which can also be ordered immediately. The current program is currently rounded off by ABT floor mats in velours which also reflect the interior of the individualization of the tuner. 1. Great when it works.
I did it. After much deliberation, in June 2020 I decided to increase the performance of my A5 Cabrio 2.0 TFSI with 252PS.
The choice fell on the company Abt. Tuning at Abt is about twice as expensive as with other recognized chip tuners, but the name Abt has a huge effect. Especially since Abt also offers an increase in performance to 330 hp, in contrast to the other tuners, who almost all offer "only" about 300 hp. However, when asked by phone, Abt was not aware of the restriction that I know of, namely that a maximum of 20% of the standard output can be increased without further changes to the vehicle. In addition, the idea of using an additional control unit was decisive, as the chip tuning is retained when a manufacturer updates the original control unit. The disadvantages of a "tuning box" were quickly dispelled, since Abt.
So I took my A5 to an authorized workshop to have the Abt additional control unit installed there. That was done quickly, the TÜV acceptance was also included.
It was quickly clear why I didn't notice the increase in performance the first time I drove the tuned car. Abbot had programmed an incorrect VIN into the control unit. The additional control unit was therefore without function and my A5 drove with series performance. It can happen.
So Abt sent a new, this time correctly programmed control unit, which was then installed. And again I unfortunately didn't notice anything of 78 PS and 70Nm.
Several calls with persistent discussions with Abt showed that Abt would send a new control unit again, whereby both Abt and I were not convinced of a positive change. But it should be worth a try. And right. Even this control unit did not let me recognize that my A5 has been upgraded. For Abbot, the subject was already closed.
The key message of several phone calls was that the control unit is programmed correctly, so it works and the vehicle therefore has the performance specified by Abt and I am not able to recognize that.
My suggestion to have the performance tested on a certified dynamometer was rejected because Abt only accepts the test results from its own test benches.
The only option would be to drive to Kempten and check the vehicle there. Of course, I wasn't thrilled to drive about 650km every now and then 650km back, especially since it would not have been possible without at least one overnight stay on site. So I offered to reverse the tuning and Abt reimbursed me for the purchase price for the additional control unit. I will cover the rest of the costs, which is about cheaper for me than a 1300km drive and an overnight stay, apart from the time required. Abbot ultimately accepted this proposal.
I am particularly dissatisfied with the way it was handled. Abt showed no interest in solving the problem on site or in the immediate vicinity. Even the search for a possible cause of the error was largely left to me. Abbot only asked whether I had also refueled 98 octane and whether the vehicle would continue to accelerate well above 250km / h. That would be an indication that the tuning is working. Well, Abt does not offer a lifting of the Vmax limitation of 250km / h for my vehicle at all ...
So, contrary to what I said in the first sentence, I didn't do it. My A5 continues to drive untuned with series performance and will probably continue to do so after this experience. What a pity.
