The BMW Theater Screen brings cinema experience into the vehicle!

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022, the BMW Group is presenting another, particularly exclusive version of My Modes in conjunction with a new and globally unique in-car entertainment system for future BMW models. In the My Mode Theater, the rear area of ​​the interior is transformed into a private cinema lounge with surround sound and 32G connectivity thanks to the BMW Theater Screen, a panorama display in 9: 5 format. There, every trip for the rear passengers becomes a breathtaking cinema experience with individually selectable entertainment programs on an up to 8k high-resolution, 31-inch ultra-wide display.

To make this innovation a reality, the BMW Group selected Amazon Fire TV to bring together the content and technology that make a seamless in-vehicle entertainment experience possible. Fire TV allows passengers in the back to enjoy a variety of content from popular apps. They can stream films and series, listen to music and watch downloaded programs - all while driving. This is the first in-vehicle integration of Amazon Fire TV to support 4K content and offers the highest resolution and largest display of any Fire TV in-vehicle experience. A country-specific streaming offer for Chinese customers is in preparation.

The new in-car entertainment experience in future luxury-class models from BMW begins with the activation of the My Modes Theater. The opening of the BMW Theater Screen from the headliner is accompanied by a sound staging with a sound sequence created exclusively for this purpose from the cooperation between the BMW Group and the renowned film music composer and Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer. The sound production ends exactly at the moment when the screen has reached its final position. At the same time, a graphic animation specially designed for the My Mode Theater, which was developed by BMW user interface designers, can be seen on the display. At the same time, the sun blinds for the side windows and the rear window are closed and the ambient lighting in the rear of the vehicle is dimmed.

Big cinema: 32: 9 panorama display with up to 8K resolution.

The BMW Theater Screen is an ultra-wide panorama display with a screen diagonal of 31 inches, which extends horizontally over almost the entire interior and reaches in height from the roof liner to the backrests of the front seats. Thanks to a zoom function, the content of the entertainment program can be played in either 16: 9, 21: 9 or even 32: 9 format (the content can be cropped when zooming). The exceptionally high display resolution of around 8.000 × 2.000 image points (pixels) per screen column enables an extremely clear and detailed visual experience while enjoying cinema films in Ultra HD quality. The integrated Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System ensures a particularly high-quality and multifaceted sound experience.

The inclination of the display can be varied using touch controls in the control menu of the in-car entertainment system. This guarantees an optimal cinema experience with the highest level of comfort in every seating position. The corresponding touch fields, which also serve to select the screen format and volume, are arranged on both the right and left edges of the display so that they can be conveniently operated by all rear passengers. Alternatively, the occupants can use the control panels integrated in the door handles to control the entertainment system.

The in-car entertainment system of the future will make it possible to enjoy the benefits of a state-of-the-art smart TV while driving. The basis for streaming content is an online connection with fast and reliable data transmission. The BMW Group is a pioneer in the implementation of the 5G mobile radio standard in vehicles. The technology flagship BMW iX is the world's first premium automobile to use this standard for data transmission.
