The heads of state and government of the world's most influential industrial nations met from June 26 to 28, 2022 for the G7 summit in Elmau Castle in Upper Bavaria. The BMW Group provided a shuttle service for the meeting organized by the German federal government, the vehicle fleet of which included current BMW series models as well as three examples of the new BMW i7 xDrive60, which was presented just a few weeks ago.

With the provision of the BMW i7, the high-ranking participants were given the opportunity to experience the driving comfort and future-oriented ambience of the electrically powered luxury sedan five months before the start of the global market launch. The version as a high-security vehicle based on the new BMW 7 Series will be added to the range in the course of 2023. The Protection Vehicles specially designed by the BMW Group for people with special protection needs will also be available with a fully electric drive for the first time.
In more than 40 years, the BMW Group has acquired a high level of competence and experience in the field of developing and manufacturing automobiles that are specifically tailored to the special requirements of authorities and state representatives. "We will continue this tradition in 2023 with a high-security vehicle that combines the dynamics, driving comfort and interior comfort of the new BMW 7 Series with an integrated protection concept that is unique in the competitive environment," says Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG.
“For the first time, we will put a fully electric high-security vehicle on the road based on the BMW i7 – without compromising on protection for our customers. In doing so, we are demonstrating how sustainability and safety go hand in hand.” From the outset, the vehicle architecture of the new BMW 7 Series was designed for both combustion engines and electrified drives. At the same time, the new, innovative protection concept for the next-generation high-security vehicle was already taken into account in the series development process for the luxury sedan.
This integrated security concept and production in a manufacturing process at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing also ensure a unique combination of protection, sovereignty, spacious comfort and sustainability for the electrically powered variant of the new high-security vehicle. "The new BMW i7 combines a unique all-electric driving experience with the most advanced technology package in the entire industry," says Frank Weber, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG for Development. "It was therefore completely clear to us that we would also be offering a first-class high-security vehicle based on this high-tech product."
The BMW Group has already demonstrated that an increased need for protection and sustainable mobility can be reconciled with a concept vehicle presented at the IAA Mobility 2021. The BMW Concept iX5 Hydrogen Protection VR6 has a hydrogen fuel cell drive. This makes it the world's first security vehicle concept from a series car manufacturer with locally emission-free drive and certification according to resistance class VR6.
