BMW M3 Touring (G81) from tuner LIGHTWEIGHT Performance!

Since the introduction of the first 3 Series Touring in 1987, BMW seems to have held us in the direction of an M3 version. Yes, now the wait is over. It's here – wide, fast and powerful! LIGHTWEIGHT Performance has just been titled “fastest BMW limousine on the Sachsenring(AutoBild Sportcars) with their M3 Limo (G80) and a lap time of 1:29,63 (for comparison: M4 CSL 1:29,54) and why not continue with the new Touring? Therefore, for managing director Marc Müller, a pure BMW tuner, it was clear: "Finally a touring for tuning". The vehicle shown here has the first upgrade received and more will probably follow. Together with numerous development partners, the "grey Touring" ex works was redesigned to become an absolute eye-catcher.

LIGHTWEIGHT BMW M3 Touring

A sports spring package was developed in cooperation with EIBACH, which lowers the front axle by 25 mm but the rear axle unchanged leaves. Why this? "The Touring looks much too high on the front axle, but we think the rear axle is appropriate", explains Mueller. "We have adjusted the tuning of the new rear spring to the modified front axle and thus actually made the handling in normal operation softer".

While it is clear that a 21-inch wheelset (here in 10×21″ and 11,5×21″ with 275/25/21 and 295/25/21 tires) does not necessarily contribute to better driving friendliness, but according to LIGHTWEIGHT one can almost speak of standard level, albeit with significantly more grip on the front and rear axles. And as an alternative, the tuner even offers EIBACH wheel spacers for the standard wheel set, which, in conjunction with the sport springs, make the Touring look like many people had hoped it would in the series "stands".

Rear silencer with four carbon tailpipes

LIGHTWEIGHT, who originally started building exhaust systems more than 10 years ago, have installed a rear silencer with four carbon tailpipes and EC approval as well as optimized downpipes in the M3 Touring in cooperation with development partner HJS. This makes the Touring sound sporty but not too aggressive. Due to the flow optimization of the downpipes and the reduced exhaust back pressure, the M3 can rev out of the lower speeds more easily and is more consistent in the upper speed range. Performance increases of 10-15 hp and 10-15 Newton meters were confirmed by LIGHTWEIGHT in various test bench runs during development and the end product.

And a visual treat is clearly the carbon-made LIGHTWEIGHT spoiler sword (almost a LIGHTWEIGHT tradition), which is also available in gloss black. A foil set for the front and rear area also makes it clear that this vehicle is no longer the standard version of the Touring. Incidentally, LIGHTWEIGHT has given the M3 the original M4 CSL front grille from the BMW shelf and they are currently working on a "yellow headlight solution"Similar to the M4 CSL and of course with approval.

Further upgrades are planned

"With our many years of experience and the partnerships with our development partners that have existed for many years, we can offer all high-quality products with TÜV approval, approval or even ECE approval", says Oliver Lindstedt, Sales Manager at LIGHTWEIGHT. "In our state-of-the-art workshop in Sinn Fleisbach, we also offer all maintenance work in accordance with manufacturer specifications; with entry in the service booklet (digital or in paper form)' adds Mueller. When asked if there was a "fastest BMW Touring at the Sachsenring' is given, the team smiles and refers to the information 'first expansion stage". So much for "gray mouse"...

Don't worry, of course that was far from being the case when it came to auto / auto tuning. Our magazine still has tens of thousands other tuning reports in stock. Do you want to see them all?
