For China: BMW X5 xDrive30Li and X5 xDrive40Li!

The BMW Group is strengthening its long-term commitment in China and at the same time consistently expanding production capacities for the globally successful BMW X5. In the extensively expanded Dadong plant of the joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. In the future, an additional variant of the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) developed and produced exclusively for the Chinese automobile market will roll off the assembly line in Shenyang. This is the first time that luxury-class BMW X models have been produced in China. The BMW X5 xDrive30Li and the BMW X5 xDrive40Li, which will be available in China from April 2022, are characterized by a particularly generous amount of space in the rear and exclusive equipment features.

The BMW X5 for the USA and worldwide export will continue to be produced at the BMW Group plant in Spartanburg in the US state of South Carolina, the only production site for the SAV to date. Due to the high global demand for BMW X models, the freed-up production capacities will be fully utilized again immediately. The world's largest plant in the BMW Group's global production network and competence center for BMW X models will begin production of the first electrified high-performance model from BMW M GmbH, the BMW XM, towards the end of 2022. With the new models for China and their production at the location of the joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. the BMW Group is preparing for continued growth in global demand for the BMW X5.

The new BMW X5 xDrive30Li and the new BMW X5 xDrive40Li were developed in close cooperation by a team of engineers working at the BMW Group's headquarters in Munich, Spartanburg and Shenyang. The production preparation was also carried out jointly. In this way, two variants of the SAV were created, which combine the brand-typical driving pleasure and the versatility characteristic of a BMW X model with a space in the second row of seats that is unique in the competitive environment and a correspondingly high degree of travel comfort. True to the motto "Made in China, made for China", the model variants of the BMW X5 manufactured in Shenyang are geared precisely to the needs of customers in the world's largest automobile market. Compared to the BMW X5 from US production, they have a wheelbase that is 130 millimeters longer, which fully benefits the seating comfort and legroom for passengers in the second row.

In addition, the rear passengers benefit from particularly easy entry and exit due to the long rear doors. The standard equipment of the new models is also precisely tailored to the requirements of Chinese customers, including model-specific comfort seats, a 4° greater backrest angle in the rear, a panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting and a model-specific M aerodynamics package. In addition, galvanic features for selected controls, loudspeakers with perforated metal covers and a newly designed smartphone holder with inductive charging function ensure a modern, premium ambience in the interior. A perfect balance between sportiness and comfort is created by the model-specific chassis technology, which includes electronically controlled dampers as standard and, optionally for the new BMW X5 xDrive40Li, two-axle air suspension with automatic level control. There is a choice of two efficient petrol engines – a four-cylinder engine in the BMW X5 xDrive30Li and a six-cylinder in-line engine in the BMW X5 xDrive40Li – with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, which generates its power via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and the intelligent all-wheel drive system BMW xDrive transfer the lane.
