The Ford Explorer is one of the most popular SUVs in China and now it gets a new version specially designed for off-road adventures. The Kunlun peak edition, which debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show and features the U.S. Timberline, is named after one of Asia's longest mountain ranges and features a rugged design and improved off-road capabilities. The Kunlun Peak Edition differs from the other Explorer models in particular with a revised front end with a grille that connects to the air intakes in the bumper and integrates additional LED daytime running lights. The special edition is available in orange, black, gray and white and has glossy black details on the bodywork all around.

There are also aluminum-look skid plates, orange accents on the tow hooks and also on the 18-inch alloy wheels that are shod with deep-tread all-terrain tires. The Kunlun Peak Edition also features the classic Timberline logo and emblem on the rear, C-pillars, door sills and seat backs. In the interior we also find Timberline logos and noble suede inserts on the seats and door panels. The dashboard retains the familiar 27-inch screen and 12,3-inch instrument cluster unique to the Chinese version. Incidentally, the cabin of the Kunlun Peak Edition is available in six or seven-seater configurations. The well-known turbocharged 2,3-liter EcoBoost engine with 272 hp (203 kW / 276 hp) and 425 Nm (313 lb-ft) of torque works under the hood.
