If you are looking for a pickup that is superior off-road and has plenty of power, then the Ford Raptor must have always been one of the closer choices. With the presentation of the Ram 1500 TRX with 712 hp Hemi V8 but that could change. Because even the biggest Ford fan should not be averse to a change. Because the Ram TRX just smiles tiredly over the turbocharged 3,5-liter V6 heart with 457 PS & 691 Nm torque of the Raptor. In terms of off-road capabilities, however, it looks different. Because the Raptor, like the TRX, is extremely well positioned with its off-road chassis with 330 mm of travel at the front and 353 mm at the rear. But the Raptor shown here clearly trumps the series and again smiles at the TRX. Under the name "Reaper" (German: Grim Reaper) the tuner "Jimco Racing" (California / Santee) has built a very special Raptor.

built for Bobby Patton

The company specializes in the production of off-road racers and repeatedly shows vehicles that meet even the toughest requirements such as the Dakar Rally or the Baja 1000. And apart from a few typical Raptor details, the monster in the black and gray camouflage design by Balboa Autobody and SignPros, and with a fiberglass body including Baja Designs LED additional lighting, has nothing to do with the original. Jimco built the Reaper for Bobby Patton, who is a co-owner of the LA Dodgers and a big rally fan. Manufactured as a pre-runner, it has a robust "Victory" chassis developed entirely by Jimco and the new chassis has an independent suspension with wishbones at the front and a multi-link construction at the rear. The chassis is equipped with 3.0 racing struts from Fox and the 4.4 bypass dampers are also from Fox. The components allow the Reaper enormous spring travel from the front 660 and rear 813 millimeters and thus have about twice the spring rate compared to the factory Raptor components.

And, of course, the 17 inch beadlock aluminum (Full spare wheel on the loading area) with the coarse-tread 40 × 12.50R17 large BFGoodrich Baja T / A KR3 racing tires. The real highlight is under the hood! An engine from the specialists at Dougans Racing Engines is at work here. Not a Ford engine, however, but a big-block V8 from archenemy GM. It has an insane displacement of 555 cui (9,1 liters) and generates a crazy 811 hp and 949 Nm of torque. There was also a cooling system from C&R Racing, a custom Pyrotect tank cell and a sports exhaust system from Butler. The engine management is taken over by a Motec control unit and the power comes to all four wheels by means of an adapted GM-4L80-E four-speed automatic from Gearworks. And so that the whole load is delayed again appropriately, a 6-piston brake system from Brembo with mighty 355-millimeter discs was installed. And the off-roader, dubbed “Luxury Pre-Runner”, has also received a completely new interior with a safety cell. Unfortunately, the changes also contribute to the considerable vehicle weight of just over three tons

But the new interior makes the Reaper a luxury off-roader. MasterCraft Pro4s bucket seats with MOMO five-point belts, a leather-covered dashboard (by Felipe Ramos) and the off-roader are controlled with one dished sports steering wheel with Alcantara cover and yellow 12 o'clock marking. Of course, this is also from MOMO. Other noteworthy details are trim strips in a camouflage look, there are two air conditioning systems, various cup holders and amenities such as cruise control or an off-road navigation system from Lowrance with several screens and a communication system from Paloma are installed. The absolute surprise, however, is the fact that the Jimco Reaper Luxury Pre-Runner can even be used on public roads at any time. At least in Arizona!
