Porsche racing cars have a long history of success on the race track. Between the 1950s and 1970s they were accompanied by the famous racing service Bullis. The dark red VW buses have now become cult objects themselves. Today, Porsche Germany and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWN) are reviving this tradition with state-of-the-art technology: with the all-electric ID. buzz Curtain up for the Porsche racing service - VW ID. buzz!

Porsche racing service – VW ID. buzz

  • Porsche Germany once again relies on vans from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles for the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany and Porsche Sports Cup Germany racing series.
  • Two IDs Buzz will be used as a racing service in this year's series.

Fans of the racing service Bullis, which once supported Porsche racing teams by transporting mechanics, tools and spare parts to the racetrack, can look forward to a contemporary reinterpretation based on the ID. Buzz from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. The characteristic dark red retro-style electric bus bears the lettering "Renndienst" based on its legendary predecessors. Another constant: Inspired by the first Bulli, the new racing service ID. Buzz is a powerful and environmentally friendly commercial vehicle that can handle all the demands of everyday work on and off the racetrack.

At the opening race of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland in Spa-Francorchamps, both ID. Buzz already in action. In the coming months, they will accompany the teams from racetrack to racetrack and support them in their on-site operations. Historical context: In 1954, the Porsche works team entered the first racing service Bulli in the Mille Miglia. Since Porsche did not have a suitable transport vehicle for tools and spare parts, the idea arose to convert a VW bus accordingly. The first vehicle was based on a T1. Other racing service buses based on the VW Transporter (T1 and T2) were added in the 1950s to 1970s. The transporters, with their reliable air-cooled engines, served not only as mobile workshops, but also as temporary housing for engineers and other team members.

the "racing service" was also visually appealing

The racing service buses were not only functional, but also visually appealing thanks to their dark red paintwork. Although the big headlines were always dedicated to the Porsche legends 904, 908, 910 and 917, the VW buses became an integral part of the works team. Today, some of the surviving racing service buses are on display in museums or housed in the garages of Porsche collectors. Perhaps in a few years the newest models will be added.
