Have you ever heard of the Porsche 904 Living Legend? No? We neither! Until yesterday. Suddenly, Porsche officially showed the homage to the 904 Carrera GTS from 1963, which never went into series production. The Porsche 904 Living Legend is a study and is already a good 7 years old. The design exercise was completed in 2013, exactly 50 years after the premiere of the original 904, which was made 116 times. Many still consider it the most beautiful Porsche of all time. And the 904 Living Legend with a monocoque chassis made of carbon in the style of the VW XL1 would have been the perfect opportunity to build a small and minimalist sports car. The Porsche design team experimented with different body shapes and in the end created a unique piece that was proportioned and dimensioned very similarly to the 904. A real mid-engine sports car with its crouched cockpit and elegantly exhibited wheelhouses, the purist design idea of the Carrera GTS from the year 1963 to the present.
With a Ducati 1199 Superleggera engine?
With a weight of less than 900 kilograms, the 904 Living Legend could have had a high-revving V2 motorcycle engine under the hood, for example. The one from the VW XL Sport. The engine came from the Ducati 1199 Superleggera and mobilized a whopping 1,2 hp and 200 Newton meters of maximum torque in the rear of the XL Sport with a displacement of 134 liters. On the other hand, the 560 hp six-cylinder boxer engine with turbocharging from the 911 Turbo S at the time would be nice, wouldn't it? The Porsche 904 Living Legend (2013) is one of a total of 15 spectacular individual pieces from the presented book "Porsche Unseen". And from next year the true-to-scale models and prototypes can also be seen in the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen. If we get more information, there is of course an update for this report.
