Scalar SCR1 based on the Toyota GR86 with electric drive!

For many car fans, the Toyota GR86 is considered to be one of the last true and uncompromising classic-style sports cars. In times of electrification of the automobile, rear-wheel drive, naturally aspirated engines and manual transmissions will soon be obsolete, but they have a very special appeal in connection with their low weight and low center of gravity. Now, fans of the old school have to be strong, because at SEMA 2022 the Scalar SCR1, a scooter based on the Toyota GR86, will be presented, which mercilessly breaks with some of the traditions of Hachiroku. We introduce you to this model!

Electric racing cars for amateur racing

The tuning company Scalar reported that the model is the first all-electric touring car for popular sport. A large GT3 rear wing was installed for this purpose, which is intended to provide significantly more downforce. The E-Hachiroku also got a carbon front splitter and wider side skirts. Of course, a striking paint job with various stickers should not be missing, otherwise the vehicle would not be seen as a racing car. Unfortunately, we don't know anything about modifications to the chassis and brakes, but we do know that the 2,4-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine was replaced by an electric drive called Hypercraft Stealth EV.

E-drive with mighty power!

The electric motor installed on the rear axle delivers 326 hp and a whopping 468 Newton meters of maximum torque. A 65 kWh battery allows continuous flat-out phases of up to 45 minutes on the race track before the vehicle has to be recharged. With a Level 3 fast charger (150 kW), it takes less than 20 minutes until the battery is fully charged again and the vehicle is completely ready to drive. It is also important to mention the low curb weight of just 1.379 kilograms. This results in an excellent power to weight ratio and outstanding acceleration values. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3,9 seconds and has a top speed of 267 kilometers per hour. The GR86 thus proves that an electric vehicle can also be sporty and suitable for the racetrack.

Our conclusion Scalar SCR1 based on the Toyota GR86:

A great vehicle for motorsport newcomers, even if traditionalists will now cry out indignantly and shake their heads. But nobody has to be sad, because the GR86 is of course still available to buy in the classic old-school design. If we get more information about the changes, there is of course an update for this report. You will be informed about this if you simply use our Feed subscribe to.
