Toyota plans to unveil two GR Supras built specifically for drag racing at the 2022 SEMA Show. The catch, they were supposed to be "10 second cars" and the tuning budget for each car was just 10.000 US Dollars. In order to achieve the goal, the Supra engine (B58 in-line six-cylinder) must at least 30% to 40% more power own. The Toyota engineers install a larger one cooler, HKS chassis, Weld Drag Wheels (Racing rims) with Mickey Thompson semi slicks, a Sports exhaust and racing harnesses. However, that alone is easily around the $10.000 mark (or above). To do this, you “manufacture” one yourself and thus virtually free of charge Roll cage and also the Reprogramming is taken over by the engine control unit.
a 10 second car for only about $10.000
Incidentally, the two vehicles were former ones safety cars for the NASCAR Xfinity Series, so it's not clear if performance modifications were made back then and if those are also part of the $10.000 edition. According to Marty Schwerter, team manager for the SEMA projects, the goal is to show that you can turn a 10.000-year-old car into a fast drag racer for about $3. More will be announced in advance of the SEMA Show on November 1st.
