Naked bike: the 153 PS Ducati Streetfighter V2!

The Panigale V2 without fairing, with high and wide handlebars, 178 kg dry weight, powered by the 955 cc Superquadro engine, which produces 153 hp and is controlled by a state-of-the-art electronics package. This is the reinterpretation of the Ducati "Fight Formula", which is applied to the two-cylinder Panigale after the highly acclaimed Streetfighter V4 and brings the Streetfighter V2 to life: the new gateway to the super-naked family from Borgo Panigale. The passionate work of Ducati engineers has led to the development of this sporty naked bike with unique features. The Streetfighter V2 is dedicated to motorcyclists who are looking for a machine that combines the sporty DNA of the Panigale V2 with the handling and style of the Streetfighter. The result is an intuitive and easy-to-control motorcycle with the right dose of power, which ensures spirited performance and maximum driving pleasure.

Ducati Street Fighter V2

In this remarkable reinterpretation of the successful “Fight Formula” from Ducati, the Panigale V2 was used, which was stripped of its disguise. The stub handlebars were exchanged for high and wide handlebars. The dry weight is 178 kg and the motorcycle is powered by the proven Superquadro engine with 955 cm³ and 153 hp, which is controlled by an electronic package of the latest generation.

The new Streetfighter V2 is characterized by a really sharp design that picks up on the classic style elements of the Streetfighter V4, starting with the striking headlight, which takes up the V-shape of the DLR typical for Ducati Superbike and is inspired by the famous grin of the Joker. Ergonomics is all about the driver. The seating position has been optimized for use on the road, with a focus on sportiness and comfort. The high and wide aluminum handlebar replaces the stub of the Panigale V2.

Seat: wider and with new upholstery

The seat is now wider and has new padding that helps make this motorcycle even more comfortable. In addition, the footrests have been repositioned to allow the driver a more comfortable seating position. All of these improvements ensure great control during sporty driving and at the same time make everyday use easier. The Streetfighter V2 is powered by the 955 cm³ Superquadro engine, which meets the Euro 5 standard and delivers a maximum output of 153 hp at 10.750 rpm and a maximum torque of 101,4 Nm at 9.000 rpm.

This engine is not only very easy to control on the road, it can also be used very effectively on the racetrack. Compared to the Panigale V2, the Streetfighter V2 has a shorter final gear ratio (15/45 compared to 15/43): This guarantees a higher torque when used on the road and at the same time a better response of the engine when accelerating. When developing this new model, Ducati engineers paid a lot of attention to the chassis. The Superquadro engine serves as the load-bearing element of the compact front structure, which consists of a monocoque frame made of die-cast aluminum that is attached to the engine.

Single-sided swing arm: 16 mm longer than the V2

https://youtu.be/MbvskbxMi4w

The single-sided swing arm, which is also connected to the engine, is 16 mm longer than that of the Panigale V2, a plus point that contributes to the driving stability of the entire motorcycle. The front wheel is guided by a 43 mm Showa BPF fork. A Sachs shock absorber is installed at the rear. The suspension elements are specially tuned to make the motorcycle even more comfortable on the road. At the same time, however, they are also easily adjustable to experience a whole new dimension of driving fun on the racetrack. The Streetfighter V2 is equipped with 5-spoke wheels and the new Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tires: 120/70 ZR17 at the front and 180/60 ZR17 at the rear.

The tires react very quickly to the driver's steering impulses and convey an unprecedented feeling when cornering. Apart from the use of less aggressive brake pads, which are better suited for use in road traffic, the entire braking system has been carried over from the Panigale V2 true to the original and is equipped with Brembo M4-32 monoblock radial brake calipers and brake discs with a diameter of 320 mm. The comprehensive and modern electronic equipment of the Panigale V2 has also been adopted for the Streetfighter V2.

The 6-axis IMU inertial platform manages all the electronic controls of the motorcycle and indicates the position of the motorcycle in space in real time and sends the information to the control units that manage the interventions. The electronic package includes: Cornering ABS EVO with "Slide by Brake" function, Ducati Traction Control (DTC) EVO 2, Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) EVO, Ducati Quick Shift up / down (DQS) EVO 2, Engine Brake Control (EBC) EVO. The Streetfighter V2 has three different riding modes (Sport, Road, Wet) with special settings. The electronic equipment can be expanded with a range of accessories from the Ducati Performance catalog: Ducati Data Analyzer (DDA + GPS) and Ducati Multimedia System. The motorcycle is equipped with full LED headlights with daytime running lights and a 4,3-inch TFT color display with an intuitive user interface reminiscent of the Streetfighter V4 family.

The Streetfighter V2 is expected to be available from Ducati dealers in December in the color Ducati red with black rims. The Ducati Performance catalog offers an expanded range of accessories, such as the winglets, which are faithfully derived from the Streetfighter V4 and guarantee a downforce of 28 kg at 265 km / h and are particularly suitable for use on the racetrack. An AkrapovičRacing exhaust system is also available, increasing power to 157 hp and reducing weight by 7 kg. The single-seater kit, an approved Akrapovič exhaust and many other components that enhance the look and characteristics of the motorcycle are also available.

Design

The Streetfighter V2 knows exactly how to stand out. This is due to its design, which at first glance shows a strong relationship with the muscular Streetfighter V4, from which it has inherited most of the character traits. However, Ducati Centro Stile has been working on reinterpreting some aesthetic concepts with the aim of giving the motorcycle a strong and distinctive character through a series of changes. The style of the Streetfighter V2 is built around the technical base inherited from the Panigale V2. The supporting element is the Superquadro engine, which is more compact than the Desmosedici Stradale and fits perfectly into the flowing surfaces of the tank. The fairing of the new Streetfighter V2 is particularly puristic. There are flowing lines from the front through the engine to the rear of the machine. All add-on parts fit in harmoniously. The result is a motorcycle that looks very elegant, agile and compact. The true spirit of the Streetfighter V4 is perfectly represented by the minimalist design and illustrated by the striking headlights reminiscent of the front of the Panigale V4, including the V-shaped daytime running lights (DLR) and the famous grin of the Joker.

In addition, the headlight unit also acts as an air inlet. Every attachment on the motorcycle combines aesthetics and functionality: this also applies to the covers, which are used to better control heat dissipation and noise generation. The rear is built on an aluminum tubular space frame, which is clad with plastic elements. The Ducati engineers have also worked on the aerodynamics and power delivery in order to dispense with the winglets built into the Streetfighter V4. The efficiency of the chassis was not affected. This measure gives the Streetfighter V2 a clean and puristic look. The winglets are still available as accessories for those who want to get the most out of their motorcycle between the curbs of a racetrack.

Ergonomics

In line with the style of the Streetfighter, the V2 version is characterized by a seating position that perfectly combines sportiness and maximum comfort. Compared to the Panigale V2, the position of the upper body is less extreme. In addition, the driver's wrists are less stressed. The footrests have been repositioned so that they allow good control both in sporty driving and in everyday life. The stubs of the Panigale V2 give way to a high and wide aluminum tubular handlebar. The seat, derived from the Streetfighter V4, is 845mm high and, compared to the Panigale V2, wider and has new padding that helps make this motorcycle even more comfortable.

Motor

The 955 cc Superquadro twin cylinder of the Streetfighter V2 meets the Euro 5 standard. It shares the exhaust system with the Panigale V2, which runs completely under the engine and has a new compact silencer on the right-hand side. Thanks to its 153 hp at 10.750 rpm and the torque of 101,4 Nm at 9.000 rpm, the Superquadro offers the perfect combination of performance and driving pleasure on the road. The engine of the Streetfighter V2 delivers generous torque even at low speeds and has a wide usable range. The performance is very easy to dose. The Streetfighter V2's engine is a structural element of the landing gear.

The 90 ° V layout is in line with Ducati tradition. In order to achieve an angle of 21 ° between the front cylinder and the horizontal plane, the engine was rotated backwards. The goal was to shorten the wheelbase. Compared to the engine of the Panigale V2, the size of the oval throttle valve with a diameter of 62 mm remains unchanged. These are controlled independently of one another by a complete ride-by-wire system. The displacement of 955 cm³ is achieved through a large bore and a comparatively short stroke (100 x 60,8 mm): The aim was to achieve an efficient flow (valves with a large diameter of 41,8 mm at the inlet and 34 mm at the Exhaust) as well as great drivability and good responsiveness.

The valves are controlled by the desmodromic system. Rocker arms are used that have a DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating to reduce friction and increase longevity. The power is transmitted via a 6-speed gearbox with Ducati Quick Shift up / down EVO 2 system in combination with an oil bath clutch, which is equipped with an anti-hopping function and a progressive servo system that allows limited slip when braking . All of this allows better control of the motorcycle when braking, without affecting the effort on the brake lever.

Suspension

In order to achieve a dry weight of only 178 kg, the chassis of the Streetfighter V2 has been optimized to the maximum. The Superquadro engine acts as a supporting element. The rear single-sided swing arm and the monocoque aluminum frame are directly connected to the engine. An extremely functional and lightweight construction in which the monocoque is also a multifunctional technical element that also takes on the function of the airbox. In fact, in addition to the air filter, it also houses the throttle valves and the fuel circuit with injection nozzles. The bottom of the steel tank serves as a closure element and completes this work of art of motorcycle technology.

The chassis geometry and the weight distribution (with driver) of the Streetfighter V2 have been revised for the different usage behavior compared to the Panigale V2. The steering head angle is 24 °, the suspension travel is 94 mm and the wheelbase is 1.465 millimeters. Thanks to a careful definition of the height of the front and rear wheels, the weight distribution remains extremely sporty: 52% at the front and 48% at the rear. The chassis is equipped with a Showa BPF front fork with 43 mm diameter, which is fully adjustable in compression and rebound as well as spring preload. The front wheel is kept on track by a steering damper from Sachs. The fully adjustable suspension strut from Sachs in the rear has a progressive deflection. The side-mounted shock absorber allows quick access to all settings, the deflection takes place via a lever made of cast aluminum.

The Streetfighter V2 is equipped with 5-spoke wheels and the new Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tires: 120/70 ZR17 at the front and 180/60 ZR17 at the rear. These react very directly to the driver's impulses and convey an unprecedented feeling when cornering. The excellent quality of the Ducati brake systems can also be found in the Streetfighter V2. The front brake system consists of radially screwed M4.32 monoblock brake calipers from Brembo and a radial brake pump. Two 320 mm brake discs are installed. The rear braking system is also from Brembo and consists of a brake caliper with two pistons that act on a 245 mm brake disc.

The brake pads are less aggressive than on the Panigale V2 in order to achieve better controllability in traffic. Electronics The IMU inertial platform controls all electronic controls of the Streetfighter V2. The IMU works on 6 axes by measuring the position of the motorcycle in space in real time and forwards the information to the control units that control the electronic interventions. The goal is to maximize performance and security.

The Streetfighter V2 electronics package includes:

  • Kuven ABS EVO
  • Ducati Traction Control (DTC) EVO 2
  • Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) EVO
  • Ducati Quick Shift up / down (DQS) EVO 2
  • Engine Brake Control (EBC) EVO

The various parameters of each driving aid are assigned by default to the three riding modes (Sport, Road, Wet), which have been slightly modified compared to those of the Panigale V2. The Wet Riding Mode has been added with special settings for traction control and wheelie control when riding on a surface with little grip. The Riding Modes are also linked to the three Power Modes: High Mode with the full torque curve, Medium Mode with a weakened torque curve and Low Mode with limited power. In addition, special torque maps for the medium and low power mode for the various gears were developed for the first time for the Superquadro engine in order to enable more linear power delivery on the road.

Cornering ABS EVO

The standard ABS system can be set to three different levels to meet the needs of all drivers, whether on the racetrack or on the road. In levels 2 and 3, the ABS system has the cornering function, which remains active even in an inclined position and thus prevents a fall when cornering. Level 3 is recommended for driving on the road or with poor grip. This setting guarantees safe and stable braking and holds the rear wheel on the asphalt even with aggressive deceleration thanks to the cornering function.

Naked bike: the 153 PS Ducati Streetfighter V2!

Level 2 is intended for hobby drivers who are on the road or on the racetrack. The system controls both the rear and the front braking system, leaves the cornering function switched on, but deactivates the monitoring of the lift detection of the rear wheel in order to enable harder, sportier braking. When level 2 is selected, the “Slide by Brake” function is activated, with which the driver can drift in curves. Level 1 is not preset in any of the three Riding Modes: This setting is recommended for use on the racetrack by experienced riders. It ensures that the ABS only intervenes on the front wheel, as is common in racing. To maximize performance, both the cornering ABS function and the lift-off detection of the rear wheel are deactivated.

Ducati Traction Control (DTC) EVO 2

The Streetfighter V2 is equipped with the MotoGP-derived Traction Control DTC EVO 2, which is controlled by the 6-axis inertian platform (IMU) and adapts the engagement based on the lean angle. The system offers maximum performance and safety on the racetrack and on the road. The forward-looking strategy makes it possible not only to “interrupt” the power output in the event of slip, but also to predict the breakdown of the grip, which enables a more linear and uniform control. This ensures greater efficiency and better lap times on the racetrack. Especially for the Streetfighter V2, which was also developed for sporty use on the road, this also means a higher level of safety and control when accelerating, regardless of the asphalt conditions.

Naked bike: the 153 PS Ducati Streetfighter V2!

In addition to controlling the ignition and injection, the DTC EVO 2 system uses the throttle valves in all situations that do not require rapid intervention to enable optimal combustion. This results in a smoother response and allows a better feel for the engine. The DTC EVO 2 can be set to 8 different levels (6 for dry conditions, 2 for wet) so that the driver can adapt the control strategy to his individual driving style and the grip conditions in order to maximize performance.

Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) EVO

The Streetfighter V2 is equipped with the latest version of the Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) EVO. This system uses the data from the 6D IMU to keep wheelies under control and to accelerate them as easily and safely as possible. DWC EVO provides more accurate wheelie readings, enabling more precision and control so that the motorcycle can respond more quickly to the rider's impulses.

Ducati Quick Shift up / down (DQS) EVO 2

The DQS EVO 2 developed for the Streetfighter V2 works when upshifting and downshifting and uses the lean angle data to maximize the motorcycle's driving stability when shifting gears in bends. In addition to minimizing shift times, DQS EVO 2 enables downshifting without the clutch, making hard braking more effective than ever. The system is designed so that even under extreme conditions on the racetrack, seamless gear changes are possible. When downshifting, the system works together with the slipper clutch and Engine Brake Control (EBC).

The Engine Brake Control was developed to help the driver to optimize the stability of the motorcycle in extreme driving situations at the entrance to the bend by compensating the forces of the engine brake acting on the rear tire. The EBC EVO of the Streetfighter V2 monitors the throttle valve position, the gear engaged and the speed of the crankshaft depending on the lean angle during aggressive braking maneuvers and opens the throttle valve to compensate for the torque acting on the tire.

Riding modes

With the Ducati Riding Modes, the rider can choose between three different preset riding modes: Wet, Road and Sport, which optimize the behavior of the motorcycle for the individual riding style and the different road conditions. Each Riding Mode is linked to a different setting of the control parameters. By selecting the various options, the driver can instantly change the character of the engine together with the electronic control.

Riding Mode Wet

The Wet mode was developed to get the most out of even in poor conditions. The driver benefits from the full power of the Superquadro engine (153 hp), including a particularly progressive and controllable power output. The electrical control is geared towards maximum safety and intervenes in particular in the Ducati Traction Control and the Ducati Wheelie Control to ensure excellent grip and high driving stability at the same time.

Riding Mode Road

The driver can rely on the full 153 hp and better engine response. The electronic control is calibrated to better control the performance of the motorcycle on dry roads. If the Riding Mode Road is selected, the rear wheel will not lift off when braking. The cornering ABS EVO is tuned in such a way that it offers the best possible performance in the corners.

Riding fashion sport

As the name suggests, this driving mode is best suited for sporting adventures, both on the road and on the racetrack. With this setting, the driver can make optimal use of the Superquadro engine. The coordination of the ride by wire ensures an immediate and crisp response of the engine. The electronic control is set so that it is as less aggressive as possible without compromising safety. The ABS is preset to level 2 and therefore has no lift detection on the rear wheel. The “slide-by-brake” function, on the other hand, is activated to enable the driver to perform controlled drifts when braking and to slide safely at the entrance to a curve.

Instruments

The Streetfighter V2 has a 4,3-inch TFT color display with a particularly intuitive graphic and user interface. This is the reason why navigating through the menu and adjusting the settings is so easy and the selected Riding Mode is immediately recognizable. Thanks to the easy-to-read graphics and a graduated scale, it is very easy to change the individual settings of the respective Riding Mode.

Headlights and indicators

The front light unit has an extremely compact headlight thanks to the use of two LED modules for low and high beam. The daytime running lights and the upper part of the double headlights ensure the charismatic appearance and at the same time represent the modern trademark of the Ducati Superbikes. At the rear, however, the full LED taillight is divided into two parts, in the tradition of the Ducati sports models.

In the event of heavy braking, the Ducati Brake Light (DBL) system automatically activates the flashing of the tail light to signal the condition of the sudden braking to the following vehicles, thus contributing to the active safety of the vehicle. The characteristic shape of the rear light makes the Streetfighter V2 unmistakable, as does its aggressive look. The lighting system is rounded off by the front and rear LED indicators.

Ducati Multimedia System (DMS)

The Streetfighter V2 is prepared for the use of the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS), with which the driver can accept incoming calls, select and listen to a song and receive SMS notifications via Bluetooth technology. When getting on, the smartphone automatically connects to the motorcycle via Bluetooth so that the driver can control the most important multimedia functions. The title of the song being played, the symbol for the receipt of a new SMS or the name of the caller are shown on the TFT display. The sound of the call and the music are transmitted to the motorcyclist's headphones. The DMS is available as a plug-and-play accessory from Ducati Performance.
