The special qualities of the Multistrada V4 formed the basis for the development of this model and were combined with the two charismatic elements that most characterize this Pikes Peak version from an aesthetic and functional point of view. This means the 17-inch front wheel and the single-sided swing arm. The racing character of the motorcycle is underlined by the special "Pikes Peak" paintwork, which is based on the Desmosedici GP '21 both in terms of color and graphics. The start number fields on both sides of the fuel tank help to underline the close connection with the world of racing.

To further underline the sporty orientation of the new Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak, it has a large number of carbon fiber components in addition to the Akrapovič silencer made of titanium and carbon (street legal). Other striking aesthetic elements are the low windshield, the gold anodized fork legs from Öhlins, the two-tone seat in black and red with the V4 logo and the Ducati Corse emblem on the "beak". The chassis area is part of the revolution in the new Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak. There have been fundamental changes compared to the Multistrada V4. The chassis was developed around the 17-inch front wheel, which guarantees the driver great precision and responsiveness.

The aluminum monocoque frame was redesigned with the aim of achieving a different steering head angle (25,75 ° compared to 24,5 ° on the Multistrada V4). In addition, the chassis geometry of track and wheelbase has been optimized to meet the new requirements of the machine. Ducati has installed a top-class braking system in the new V4 Pikes Peak: 330 mm discs and Brembo Stylema monoblock brake calipers, which are derived directly from the Panigale V4, are used at the front. At the rear, however, the braking system of the Multistrada V4 and V4 S is installed. The rear wheel is decelerated by a single 265 mm disc combined with a Brembo floating caliper. The new Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is also characterized by its special ergonomics, which should allow maximum control and greater lean angles.

Compared to the Multistrada V4, the seating position has been completely redesigned: the footrests are higher and moved backwards to increase the maximum lean angle, while the handlebars are lower and narrower and have curved handlebar ends. The end result is that the driver can build an even better feeling while driving sportily. At the same time, the excellent level of comfort is maintained. The new Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is powered by the most powerful engine in its class, the highly acclaimed V4 Granturismo, which develops 170 hp and a maximum torque of 125 Nm at 8.750 rpm.

This engine, specially developed by Ducati for the Multistrada V4 family, is extremely light and compact at just 66,7 kg. These characteristics enabled Ducati engineers to achieve perfect balance and mass centralization. With a displacement of 1.160 cm³, the V4 Granturismo engine guarantees a level of power and torque that is in the top class. In addition, the V4 Granturismo is also the benchmark in terms of versatility and reliability, with a record-breaking maintenance interval with a valve clearance check every 60.000 km.

The V4 Granturismo engine has been optimized to reinforce the characteristics of the motorcycle and has some innovations. This includes the introduction of the Riding Mode Race, which is available for the first time in a multistrada. The Race option has a more sporty set-up of the limiter, which intervenes more slowly than with the normal Multistrada V4 in order to warn the driver in advance and to enable him to drive more sportily with regard to gear changes in the high engine speed range. The Quickshifter also has a special strategy that enables extremely aggressive downshifts, as well as an even more direct throttle response in high power mode.

The Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak adopts the latest generation of the highly developed electronics package of the Multistrada V4 S, which includes, among other things, the standard radar technology both front and rear, which enables the functions Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD) . Design

The design of the new Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is based on the stylistic principles that characterize the Multistrada V4 family and perfectly integrates two elements that traditionally reflect the Multistrada Pikes Peak version in both aesthetic and functional terms. This means the 17 ″ front wheel and the single-sided swing arm. The Centro Stile Ducati has focused its attention on the perfect combination of form and function - with the aim of offering the driver perfect ergonomics and thus increasing the performance of the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak. The technical and functional elements are converted into design elements.

From the radar to the aerodynamic add-on parts, from the windshield to the cockpit, from the controls to the handlebars to the compartment for storing and charging the smartphone: everything has been perfectly integrated into the design of the motorcycle. The racing spirit of the motorcycle is enhanced by the special “Pikes Peak” paintwork, which is based on the Desmosedici GP '21 in both the colors and the graphics; The start number fields on both sides of the tank also help to underline the close connection to the world of racing. It can be clearly seen that the new paintwork emphasizes the lines of the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak by conveying pure sportiness and the incomparable mixture of comfort and performance, safety and driving pleasure at the same time. The Euro 5 compliant engine develops 170 hp and has a maximum torque of 125 Nm at 8.750 rpm. The valve train with classic springs, which has been developed and tested for a mileage of over 200.000 km, guarantees outstanding driving performance, absolute reliability and, above all, record-breaking maintenance intervals for this category, because the valve clearance only needs to be checked every 60.000 km. In addition to the 4 ° V layout, the V90 Granturismo shares a number of exclusive technical solutions with the engine, which has won multiple victories in MotoGP. This includes the counter-rotating crankshaft, which works against the inertia generated by the wheels and thus improves both efficiency and driving pleasure. The “Twin Pulse” configuration is another aspect that approximates the character of this V4 engine to that of a two-cylinder and improves the performance characteristics.

One of the special features of the engine is the deactivation of the rear cylinder bank: By “switching off” the combustion in the rear cylinders, the driver and front passenger can better control the thermal comfort on hot days. Chassis

The chassis of the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is based on the successful layout of the Multistrada V4, but has been trimmed more for sportiness and more dynamic driving behavior. This was made possible due to the significant technical interventions. First and foremost is the use of 17-inch wheels from Marchesini, which were chosen not only because of their diameter. Since the wheels are made of forged aluminum, they help to reduce the unsprung mass and thus enable exceptionally agile handling compared to the previous Multistrada Pikes Peak. A large part of the 4 kg that the Pikes Peak saves compared to the Multistrada V4 S is due to the rims (-2,7 kg). This is an aspect that undoubtedly affects the way the motorcycle rides.

Equipped with the new Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV (120 / 70-17 front and 190 / 55-17 rear), which contribute to the sporty character of the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak, the performance-oriented character is underlined. With a motorcycle like the Pikes Peak, which focuses on performance and driving fun on the road, every single element in the chassis area must be of the finest quality. For this reason, the geometry has been revised compared to the Multistrada, in particular the steering head angle of 25,75 ° (+ 1,25 ° compared to the Multistrada V4), the caster of 120 mm (+ 0,5 mm compared to the Multistrada V4) and the wheelbase of 1.595 mm (+0.028 mm compared to the Multistrada V4). This new tuning gives the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak the driving characteristics typical of sports motorcycles without negatively affecting comfort. A striking element of the chassis from an aesthetic and functional point of view, which says a lot about the “return to the origins” of this Multistrada, is the new single-sided swing arm.

The V4 Pikes Peak is the first Multistrada V4 to be equipped with electronic Öhlins suspension. The Smart EC 2.0 system is the same as that of the Panigale V4 S and the Streetfighter V4 S. It is a particularly advanced system that enables "event-based" settings. In contrast to the Ducati Skyhook Suspension System adopted from the Multistrada V4, which adapts to the unevenness of the asphalt to ensure optimum vehicle balance, the "event-based" system adapts the suspension to the driver's driving style. In other words: the more the driver pushes the limit, the harder the suspension elements become. Each driving mode is combined with a special chassis strategy that enables the system to independently select the ideal setting for a specific driving situation. The user can also change the standard setup manually directly from the cockpit in an extremely intuitive menu. The Öhlins suspension has a suspension travel of 170 mm. This is a special feature that makes the V4 Pikes Peak a real multistrada.

On the one hand comfort and the ability to absorb the unevenness of the road and on the other hand the sportiness that every Pikes Peak must have are combined. Ducati has installed a top-class braking system in the new V4 Pikes Peak: 330 mm discs and Brembo Stylema monoblock brake calipers, which come directly from the Panigale V4, are used at the front. At the rear, the braking system of the Multistrada V4 and V4 S is installed with a single 265 mm disc. With the aim of ensuring the typical deceleration of a racing motorcycle, the V4 Pikes Peak uses the same brake pads as the Panigale V4 S.

Electronics

In 2010, the Ducati Multistrada was the first motorcycle in the world to be equipped with Riding Modes: a technology that allows the rider to change the character of the motorcycle with the simple push of a button. Since then, all Multistrada models have the same 4 riding modes, namely Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro. With the V4 Pikes Peak, Ducati is introducing for the first time in a Multistrada model a riding mode specially developed for sporty rides, the Riding Mode Race, which in this version replaces the Enduro option. The Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is also equipped with a 6,5-inch TFT color display that can be set in 6 different languages. It impresses with its optimal resolution and perfect readability in all lighting conditions.

It is also possible to change the inclination of the display with a button. All information can be read immediately, from the round tachometer to the gear indicator. Thanks to the large display, all service information is always available while driving, such as the fuel level, range or coolant temperature. Special fields are reserved for the electronic controls and for the settings of the Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 suspension selected by the driver. The Ducati Connect System enables the smartphone to quickly access the phone book, answer incoming calls and listen to music using the “mirroring” function of the smartphone. The Sygic GPS navigation app offers the possibility of "projecting" the navigation map directly onto the display, together with all the information that helps the driver to master the specified route. Every step is intuitive thanks to the backlit handlebar switches.

The driver can use the joystick to scroll through the various menus. The driving modes can be selected using the new "Mode" button, while the adaptive cruise control is controlled using the button provided for this purpose, which is supplemented by the + and - buttons. With them, the driver can increase or decrease the distance to the vehicle in front. In addition, the setting of the suspension is controlled by a special button, which can be recognized by the symbol of a shock absorber. The selected suspension mode is displayed under that of the selected Riding Mode.

Sportiness and handling are harmoniously combined with the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak thanks to numerous solutions that make life on board easier. This includes the compartment on the fuel tank, which is equipped with a USB port, which makes it possible to always have the smartphone under control and to charge it. There is also another 12-volt socket on the right-hand side of the cockpit.

Riding Mode Race

With the introduction of the Riding Mode Race, what is undoubtedly the sportiest that has ever been developed for a Multistrada is ready. Thanks to this unique selling point, the Multistrada Pikes Peak offers a maximum of engine and chassis performance, so that the 170 hp of the V4 Granturismo engine and the advantages of the Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 come into their own. In addition, the system offers an even more direct throttle response in high power mode. The functions of Ducati Traction Control and Ducati Wheelie Control are reduced to a minimum and the ABS is set to level 2, which enables the rear wheel to be raised in a controlled manner. This means that the brake can also achieve perfect performance on the racetrack. The Riding Mode Race is without a doubt the ideal choice for experienced riders who want to take full advantage of the exclusive performance of the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak.

The Riding Mode Sport is the most powerful mode on the road and offers 170 hp in conjunction with a sporty chassis set-up. The Sport mode is also characterized by a lower level of Ducati Traction Control and Ducati Wheelie Control compared to the Riding Mode Race. The DTC, a key element of the Ducati Safety Pack of the new Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak, is a system that is constantly updated and now integrates the data from the IMU platform to efficiently detect rear wheel slip and lean angle. In just a few thousandths of a second, the DTC can use the data supplied by the sensors to detect and control the spinning of the rear wheels, which significantly increases performance and active safety. The system offers the user the option of choosing between eight different levels. Each of them is programmed in such a way that it offers a tolerance for the spinning of the rear wheel that corresponds to the respective riding ability (divided into 1 to 8).

Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC)

The Ducati Wheelie Control was developed and matched to the properties of the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak in order to be able to carry out the impulsive maneuvers that are common in sporty driving even more precisely. This system, which fits seamlessly into the Ducati Riding Modes, can be set in 8 different levels. It analyzes the motorcycle's driving status, detects any front wheel lift, and controls torque and power to safely maximize acceleration.

The Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is equipped with Bosch 10.3ME cornering ABS, which has been calibrated with the aim of further improving the motorcycle's handling characteristics. It is adjustable in 3 levels, each of which is combined as standard with the various riding modes, and is an important element of the Ducati Safety Pack. Thanks to the ABS control processor, the Multistrada Pikes Peak has a combined braking system (Electronic Combined Braking System) , which has been optimized at level 3 for the riding modes Urban and Touring.

In the Sport and Race riding modes, the ABS is set to level 2. The driver can increase the sportiness even further by selecting level 1 in the menu. In this case, the ABS function (without cornering) is only active on the front axle and deactivated on the rear wheel, so that the rear wheel can drift when braking in a sportier driving style.

Technology

The Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak has inherited radar technology from the Multistrada V4. Radar devices are advanced assistance systems that support driving and make it more comfortable, as they are able to reconstruct the reality around the motorcycle. This technical solution manages two functions: Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Spot Detection. It must be emphasized that the adaptive intelligent systems are an aid for the driver of the vehicle and must always be kept under control or adjusted by the driver.

Advanced systems are not autonomous driving systems and therefore do not replace the driver. Ducati is always concerned with road and track safety and emphasizes that the driver is and remains responsible for driving and must always behave carefully and behave appropriately for the various environmental situations.

Adaptive Cruise Control

The front radar, which is perfectly integrated into the Multistrada Pikes Peak, controls the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) function, which automatically adjusts the distance (selectable in four levels) to other vehicles through controlled braking and acceleration when the vehicle is at a speed between 30 and 160 km / h is driven. This system, which originated in the automotive sector, was developed taking into account the dynamics and ergonomics of a two-wheeled vehicle. In particular, the system's powers over deceleration and acceleration have been limited to ensure that the driver can maintain control of the vehicle in any situation. The ACC can be started and set using the corresponding buttons on the left control unit. Thanks to the DQS, the driver can upshift or downshift without the ACC deactivating during the acceleration and deceleration phases. The ACC system enables more comfortable driving, especially on long stretches of motorway.

Blind spot detection (blind spot warning)

The radar housed under the rear light can detect and report approaching vehicles in the so-called blind spot, i.e. in the area that cannot be seen directly by the driver or via the rear-view mirror. The BSD (Blind Spot Detection) system signals this situation thanks to the LEDs on the rear-view mirrors. The BSD system also signals when vehicles are approaching from behind at high speed. In both cases, the BSD system will flash when the user presses the turn signal to change lanes, signaling a potentially hazardous situation. Using a special menu, the user can set the brightness of the system in three different levels.

Vehicle Hold Control (VHC) traction help

The latest generation of the Vehicle Hold Control (VHC) system makes it easier for the driver to start off, even in difficult situations, such as on an incline, as it modulates the brake pressure when starting off so that the driver can rely on the accelerator and clutch can concentrate.

Hands-free system (keyless entry)

The Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak has a hands-free start system that guarantees the highest safety standards. Thanks to this system, the driver can simply leave the key in his pocket and start the engine with the button provided directly below the fork bridge.

Headlights and indicators

Of course, the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is equipped with LED headlights and rear lights as standard. The headlight has daytime running lights and cornering lights. The Ducati Brake Light function is integrated in the rear light. In the event of sudden braking, the tail light signals the state of the abrupt slowdown by flashing automatically. The turn signals, also equipped with LED technology, switch off automatically after turning thanks to the automatic switch-off system.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
