Long-term rental is a new form of driving a car. We would like to show you in more detail what it costs and who benefits the most from it. You can book a new car from a manufacturer or rental company in just five minutes. This is possible in a branch or online as well as via an app. You can change models more often while the contract is running. You also do not have to worry about the inspection or tire change, the distributor does all of this. Long-term rental is ultimately cheaper than buying a car and leasing. This is the main argument of car subscription providers.
So what exactly is an auto subscription?
Previously, rental cars could be rented from a car rental company, now they are increasingly offering their cars for long-term rentals. Car makers are also discovering the auto subscription for themselves. Customers who find the purchase and leasing of a new car too expensive and time-consuming can be bound by the long-term rental. The term of the long-term rental contract is usually between one, twelve and 24 months. The tenant pays a monthly rental rate that is individually negotiable. It covers all fixed costs for the car such as: inspections, maintenance, possible repairs, taxes and insurance. You only have to pay for the fuel and maintenance of the car in addition to the rent. Some providers still require the oil change of a car from their tenant because the oil is also part of the consumption.
How much does a car subscription cost you?
All well-known landlords and also the smaller car rental companies offer car subscriptions. Their palette ranges from the small car to the middle class car. At Sixtflat, for example, a Ford Fiesta costs EUR 299 per month from the provider Sixt and you get the SUV Ford Ecosport for EUR 349 plus a one-time registration fee. The start-up Cluno offers the Opel Corsa for 298 euros per month, the VW Golf is available for 398 euros per month for long-term rentals. You can also rent the Tesla Model 3 for € 1.299 per month. The range of models and prices of the different landlords differ considerably in some cases. A comparison is definitely worthwhile for you. So take your time.
What do the manufacturers offer?
With some car manufacturers, the subscription model is only just beginning its career. Volvo is the pioneer in this model. The “Care by Volvo” offer is very successful and already accounts for five percent of the company's total business. It starts at 539 euros monthly rent. Mercedes offers "Flexperience" from 699 euros. The model includes twelve model changes per year and is in the test phase. It is to be expanded even further. Other manufacturers also offer the car subscription in their test program.
Is a car subscription worth it?
At first, renting a car seems expensive, but sometimes it can be worth it in the long run. The Opel Corsa, for example, is around six percent cheaper than buying or leasing for a six-year subscription. This was the result of a study by the CAR Institute at the University of Duisburg-Essen. And finally ... A long-term car subscription can be worthwhile. You only have to bear the consumption costs such as petrol and oil changes in addition to the monthly rent. Car manufacturers and not only the landlords also offer interesting rental models.
