Aston Martin makes the hearts of sports convertible fans beat faster: The manufacturer launches the new Vantage Roadster, thereby expanding its sports car range. The Vantage, whose coupé version was introduced in 2018, is known for its fascinating mix of performance, dynamics and suitability for everyday use. With the new convertible, the model series developed an even stronger emotional appeal. The striking open two-seater is the result of uncompromisingly high standards in design, development and workmanship and, like the coupé, stands for pure driving pleasure. The 510 hp (685 Nm) 4,0-liter twin-turbo V8 from Aston Martin, which is combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF, provides the appropriate power delivery. The Vantage Roadster accelerates from zero to 3,7 miles per hour (approx. 60 km / h) in 97 seconds and reaches a top speed of 306 km / h. The convertible weighs only 60 kilograms more than the coupé - thanks to a new, very light and Z-shaped folding roof mechanism and the revisions of the body and chassis.
Dynamic and character of the coupe
The carefully developed structural elements and chassis components ensure that the Vantage Roadster has retained the dynamic qualities and the sporty character of the coupe, without compromising on driving feel or sophistication. Adaptive damping system (ADS), dynamic stability control (DSC), dynamic torque distribution (DTV) and electronic rear axle differential were adopted from the closed model. At the same time, the Roadster benefits from certain dynamic refinements, including a special tuning of the rear shock absorbers, the ADS software and the ESP-Calibration. As you would expect from a real sports car, the dynamic modes and driving behavior can be changed with the help of the suspension modes (Sport / Sport + / Track), which are also specially designed for the Roadster. They are harmoniously coordinated with the drive modes of the same name, which were adopted from the Coupé. This enables the driver to gradually increase the overall response behavior. With this wide range of options, the Roadster is equally at home on the road and on the race track.
open pleasure in just 6,7 seconds
While the Vantage Roadster shows the exceptional qualities of the coupe in terms of grip, speed and cornering, the design of the convertible is very independent. The tight fabric hood with its compact electric Z-folding mechanism can be opened and closed very quickly (Opening: 6,7 seconds; Closing: 6,8 seconds; at speeds of up to 50 km / h). This means that the roof system of the roadster has the shortest complete operating cycle of all automatic convertible systems in the automotive market. Due to the low height of the roof mechanism, the award-winning Aston Martin design team was able to give the roadster a seamless profile in the rear area. In addition, the extremely compact roof system has little effect on the capacity of the trunk: With a volume of 200 liters, it offers space for a large golf bag and accessories.
"Hunter" grill inspired by racing
With the Vantage Roadster, new optional equipment elements are also introduced in the Vantage model family. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Vantage nameplate, Aston Martin is offering the brand's legendary louvre radiator grille as an optional extra. It is available for both model variants as an alternative to the racing-inspired "Hunter" grill that the Coupé has been presenting since its launch in 2018. There are also alloy wheels with a new design and different surfaces. Lovers will also be pleased that the seven-speed manual transmission is now optionally available for the coupe, which was originally only available for the limited special model Vantage AMR. Matt Becker, chief engineer at Aston Martin, adds: “Sports convertibles are often perceived as a compromise compared to the corresponding coupes. But the Vantage Roadster remains true to its mission in every respect, combining precise and agile handling with fantastic, straightforward driving performance. And of course there is also the special charm of driving in a great-sounding sports car with an open roof.“Prices for the Vantage models start at £ 114.850. The Vantage Roadster is available in the UK from £ 126.950, in Germany from € 157.300 and in the US from $ 161.000 (both recommended retail prices).
