The new BMW 4 Series Coupé is more independent and sporty than ever. The entire vehicle concept of the two-door car, from the proportions and the individual design features to the model-specific suspension tuning, is consistently geared towards a particularly intensive driving experience. The focus on dynamic driving pleasure helps the new BMW 4 Series Coupé to differentiate itself clearly from the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and to a significantly sharper profile compared to the previous model.

The new BMW 4 Series Coupé was developed with the aim of redefining the epitome of driving pleasure in the premium segment of the middle class. With its sporty and exclusive charisma, it also stands in the almost 90-year-old coupé tradition of the BMW brand, characterized by numerous legendary sports cars. The dynamic alignment of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé is also reflected in the model range. The BMW M2020i xDrive Coupé, powered by a 275 kW / 374 hp in-line six-cylinder petrol engine, will be available for the first time in October 440 (combined fuel consumption: 7,1 - 6,8 l / 100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 163 - 155 g / km) at the top of the offer. In addition, there are initially two four-cylinder petrol engines and a four-cylinder diesel. The drive portfolio is expected to be supplemented by two inline six-cylinder diesel engines in March 2021. Another BMW M automobile will then debut with the stronger of the two drive units. The new BMW 4 Series Coupé is produced at the BMW plant in Dingolfing.
Exterior design: elegance and dynamism combined.
The appearance of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé expresses both the style characteristic of the brand's sporty two-door model and the new design language. With a few, precisely drawn lines and a clear and generous surface design, a body design was created that radiates pure driving pleasure from every perspective. The dynamically stretched proportions of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé result from the external dimensions, which grew by 128 to 4 millimeters in length and by 768 to 27 millimeters in width, as well as the wheelbase that was extended by 1 to 852 millimeters compared to the previous model. The vehicle height increased by just six to 41 millimeters. It is 2 millimeters lower than that of the new BMW 851 Series Sedan. The track widths have increased significantly: 1 millimeters at the front compared to the previous model, 383 millimeters at the rear compared to the previous generation and 57 millimeters from the new BMW 3 Series Sedan.
Expressive, independent and tradition-conscious front.
The distinctive character of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé is highlighted with an expressive front view. The large, vertically oriented BMW kidney grille is inclined forward and extends almost to the lower end of the front apron. As standard, their air intakes have a mesh structure previously only used in BMW M automobiles. As a formative element, the BMW kidney sits confidently in the center of the front of the vehicle. With its upright elements connected in the middle, a traditional design feature known from legendary classics of the brand such as the BMW 328 or the BMW 3.0 CSi is taken up and reinterpreted in a modern way.
The flat headlights of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé protrude far into the front wheel arches. Full-LED headlights are part of the standard equipment. Adaptive LED headlights with BMW laser light are optionally available. The scope of equipment includes adaptive cornering lights with variable road illumination that is optimized for city and freeway journeys. At speeds of more than 60 km / h, the BMW laser light increases the range of the high beam up to 550 meters and dynamically follows the course of the road.
Elegance and dynamism in the side view, powerful rear.
The side view of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé is characterized by clearly and tightly modeled surfaces. Short overhangs, slim pillars, long doors with frameless panes, the flat window graphics and a flowing roof line underline the elegant appearance. The green house, which is drawn in at the back and the muscular shoulder sections emphasize the powerful stature. Generous and clearly designed surfaces also dominate in the rear. Flat, stylishly darkened LED rear lights with homogeneously shining tail light bars underline the powerful appearance.

Sports seats and a redesigned sports leather steering wheel are standard equipment. Together with the coordinated design of the instrument panel and the door panels, the high center console creates a surrounding feeling of space in the front seats. The standard acoustic glazing for the windshield optimizes travel comfort.
The instrument cluster and control display form a large display network in the new BMW 4 Series Coupé. The start / stop button for the engine is now also located in the high-quality control panel on the center console. The model-specific seats in the rear, designed for two passengers, have integrated headrests and a distinctive single-seat character.

Like the diesel engine variants, the new BMW M440i xDrive Coupé is equipped with mild hybrid technology. With its spontaneously available additional power of 8 kW / 11 PS, the starter generator provides an electrical boost that increases the dynamics when starting and accelerating. In addition, the powerful starter generator optimizes efficiency by supporting the combustion engine when driving at a constant speed, as well as comfort when using the Auto Start Stop and the sailing function.
In addition to the top-of-the-range 275 kW374 hp six-cylinder engine, two four-cylinder petrol engines are also available. They deliver 135 kW / 184 hp in the new BMW 420i Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 5,8 - 5,3 l / 100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 132 - 122 g / km) or 190 kW / 258 hp in the new BMW 430i Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 6,1 - 5,7 l / 100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 141 - 131 g / km). A 140 kW / 190 hp four-cylinder diesel engine powers the BMW 420d Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 4,2 - 3,9 l / 100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 112 - 103 g / km) and BMW 420d xDrive Coupé ( Combined fuel consumption: 4,6 - 4,3 l / 100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 121 - 112 g / km). Like the in-line six-cylinder engine of the new BMW 430d xDrive Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 6,2 l / 100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 146 g / km *), it is now equipped with a two-stage charging system. The combination of two turbochargers of different sizes also gives the new BMW M440d xDrive Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 6,7 l / 100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 158 g / km *) a particularly spontaneous power delivery. All models meet the requirements of the Euro 6d emissions standard.
8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard for all model variants, optionally with shift paddles and new sprint function. For the first time, all model variants of the BMW 4 Series Coupé are equipped with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard. The latest version of the automatic transmission processes the drive torque generated by the respective engine with optimized shift dynamics and efficiency.
The 8-speed Steptronic sport transmission, which is standard in the BMW M automobiles and is available as an option for all other model variants, offers not only increased gearshift dynamics and shift paddles on the steering wheel, but also the new sprint function. With a corresponding influence on the drive and shift characteristics, it ensures maximum dynamics during quick sprints and overtaking maneuvers.
Unmistakable dynamics through optimized body rigidity and model-specific suspension tuning. With its model-specific proportions, optimized aerodynamic properties, increased body rigidity, a center of gravity 3 millimeters lower than that of the new BMW 21 Series Sedan, as well as targeted modifications to the geometry, connection and tuning of the chassis, the new BMW 4 Series Coupé has an unmistakably sporty look Characteristic. An intelligent mix of materials optimizes the weight of the body and chassis technology. Model-specific bodywork struts in the front and in the area of the rear axle also contribute to the high agility and precision in driving behavior.
Both the standard and the M sports suspension include stroke-dependent dampers, each with its own set-up. An Adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers is also available. The variable sports steering is part of the two optional suspension variants. The new BMW 4 Series Coupé is equipped with 17-inch light-alloy wheels as standard. The optional M sports brake system is available with either blue or red brake calipers.
The standard equipment of the new BMW M440i xDrive Coupé and the new BMW M440d xDrive Coupé includes 18-inch M light-alloy wheels and an M sport differential with electronically controlled, fully variable locking function in the rear axle transmission. It is also available for the BMW 430i Coupé and BMW 430d xDrive Coupé models in conjunction with the M sports suspension or the Adaptive M suspension.
Premiere: M Sport Package Pro for particularly intense driving pleasure. The vehicle concept, which is consistently geared towards dynamic driving pleasure, is also reflected in the design and equipment lines. The M Sport model is offered as an alternative to the standard equipment. Among other things, it includes particularly large air intakes at the front and a strikingly modeled rear apron, the M sports suspension, 18-inch M light-alloy wheels, knee pads on the outer flanks of the center console and other specific interior features. The BMW M automobiles can also be recognized by the exterior accents in the color Cerium Gray. An M carbon exterior package is also available for them.
The M Sport Package Pro, which is offered for the first time for a BMW model, ensures even more intense driving pleasure. It extends the contents of the M Sport model to include 19-inch M light alloy wheels, the 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, a rear spoiler, a sporty sound tuning in the interior and the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System. An extensive selection of M Performance Parts is also available for the market launch of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé.
High quality options for customization. Numerous options from the range of optional extras ensure individual style and increased driving comfort. As an alternative to the sports seats with a fabric surface, a fabric / Sensatec version, the Vernasca leather interior, the expanded BMW Individual Merino leather interior and the BMW Individual full leather interior are available. In addition to electrically adjustable sports seats and seat heating, seat air conditioning is also available for the first time. Also on offer: particularly high-quality BMW Individual interior trim, a Sensatec version dashboard and a leather-covered BMW Individual dashboard.
A 3-zone automatic climate control and a storage package are part of the standard equipment. A parking heater and the ambient light including Welcome Light Carpet are available as options. The glass sliding / sunroof, which is also optional, has a glass surface that is 24 millimeters longer than the previous model.
As standard, the rear seat backrest of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé can be split in a ratio of 40: 20: 40. One or more backrest elements can be folded down by pressing a button in the luggage compartment. The trunk offers a storage volume of 440 liters. Optionally, an electrically extendable and retractable hitch is available.
Extensively expanded selection of driver assistance systems. The extensive range of driver assistance systems compared to the previous generation of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé increases comfort on long-distance journeys as well as safety in confusing traffic situations. The front collision warning with brake intervention, the lane departure warning including lane feedback with steering assistance and the Speed Limit Info system are now standard equipment. The optional Driving Assistant Professional includes the steering and lane guidance assistant with the new active navigation guidance function. The system recognizes necessary lane changes based on navigation data. In addition, the new emergency lane assistant automatically leads the new BMW 4 Series Coupé to the ideal edge of its lane in traffic jams on motorways.
The reversing assistant is a new component of the optional Parking Assistant. The BMW Drive Recorder included in the Parking Assistant Plus creates video recordings of the vehicle's surroundings for up to 40 seconds.
The new generation of the BMW Head-Up Display mirrors driving-relevant information on a projection surface that is 70 percent larger. The new 3D environment visualization is also available in conjunction with BMW Live Cockpit Professional. It depicts the vehicle and the traffic situation in its surroundings on a graphic in the fully digital instrument cluster and provides information about the options for action that are available through activated driver assistance systems.
New digital services: BMW Maps, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, smartphone integration, remote software upgrade. The standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus includes the iDrive operating system with an 8,8-inch control display and a touch controller, an instrument cluster in black panel optics with a 5,1-inch color display in the center, and a multimedia and navigation system, two USB ports for data transmission and a WLAN interface. A permanently installed SIM card with 4G LTE Connectivity and the Connected Package Professional, which is also standard, enable the use of digital services such as BMW TeleServices and Intelligent Emergency Call, real-time traffic information including hazard warnings, remote services and concierge services.
In addition, drivers and passengers in the new BMW 4 Series Coupé benefit from the expanded options for intuitive operation and the innovative digital services that are associated with the use of the BMW Operating System 7. The display contents are individually configurable, and depending on the situation, the intuitive and multimodal interaction between driver and vehicle can be carried out using the touch control on the control display, the tried-and-tested iDrive controller, the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel and the voice and optional BMW gesture control. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with extended functions can also be used as standard in the new BMW 4 Series Coupé.
A fully digital display network is part of the optional BMW Live Cockpit Professional. It includes a fully digital instrument cluster with a screen diagonal of 12,3 inches behind the steering wheel and a 10,25 inch control display. The fully digital instrument display in the cockpit offers space for a navigation map section, status displays of the driver assistance systems or the 3D environment visualization.
BMW Maps is one of the most important innovations in the area of digital services for the new BMW 4 Series Coupé. The new cloud-based navigation system enables particularly fast and precise calculation of routes and arrival times, the updating of real-time traffic data at short intervals and free text input for the selection of navigation destinations.
Another component of the BMW Live Cockpit Plus and the BMW Live Cockpit Professional is the optimized smartphone integration. In addition to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto has now also entered the operating system of the new BMW 4 Series Coupé. The Remote Software Upgrade function, which is also new, enables improved vehicle functions and additional digital services to be loaded “over-the-air” into the vehicle.
