BMW is presenting the extensively further developed new editions of its successful Sports Activity Vehicles (SAV) and Sports Activity Coupés (SAC) in the premium segment of the upper class. The new BMW X5 and the new BMW X6 underscore their sovereign characteristics with a precisely modified design and extended standard equipment. X5 M60i & X6 M60i

The update offers ideal conditions to ensure that the BMW X5 continues to be the global market leader in its segment and that the BMW X6 is number one in the competition among German premium suppliers. Both models are produced at the US BMW Group plant in Spartanburg. Their global market launch begins in April 2023.

The new BMW X5: flat headlights, illuminated BMW kidney grille.

With the now standard design elements of the xLine model, the BMW X5 clearly gains in presence and robust charisma. Its front is characterized by the reinterpretation of the brand-typical features headlights and BMW kidney grille. The new headlight units have a contour that is 35 millimeters flatter. Their arrow-shaped daytime running light elements also act as direction indicators. Matrix LED headlights with cornering lights and anti-glare BMW Selective Beam high beam and M Shadow Line lights are available as options.

The BMW kidney grille Iconic Glow is offered for the first time as a further standard equipment for the six-cylinder models of the new BMW X5. Their waterfall lighting ensures a particularly present and brand-typical appearance. The vertical air curtains and the lower air inlet with a decorative clip in pearlescent chrome and triangular openings in the outer areas also contribute to the modern look.

The precisely further developed design of the BMW X5 also includes newly designed air breathers on the front side walls and the standard equipment with the Exterior Line and roof rails in satin aluminum finish. The rear lights now have a particularly striking contour of the sculptural light guide elements for the tail and brake lights. The L-shape typical of the brand is mirrored horizontally, creating a harmoniously glowing X motif within the rear lights.

The new BMW X6: M sports package now standard.

The new BMW X6 also has flat headlight units with arrow-shaped daytime running light elements. The BMW kidney grille Iconic Glow is still optionally available for the six-cylinder models. With the now standard M sports package, the dynamic character of the new BMW X6 is emphasized even more intensively. This is ensured in particular by the octagonal front signature below the BMW kidney grille with its distinctive side openings and a high proportion of black surfaces. In addition, the three-dimensionally modeled front apron underlines the width and solid stature of the vehicle. M-specific side skirts and the M high-gloss Shadow Line are further components of the M sports package. The rear apron of the SAC has an insert in the color Dark Shadow, the tailpipes of its exhaust system are designed in a trapezoidal shape.

All drive units now feature 48-volt mild hybrid technology. The consistent electrification takes place with the help of an electric motor integrated in the transmission. It delivers additional drive power of up to 9 kW/12 hp and a torque of 200 Nm. The e-machine thus supports the combustion engine for a smooth, dynamic and at the same time efficient journey.

New BMW X5 xDrive50e plug-in hybrid model with more power, efficiency and electric range.

The drive system for the plug-in hybrid variant of the SAV, which now bears the model designation BMW X5 xDrive50e, has also been completely renewed. An in-line six-cylinder petrol engine of the latest generation and an electric drive, which is also new, together generate a system output that has been increased by 70 kW/96 hp to 360 kW/490 hp (with a temporary boost) and a system torque of 700 Nm (plus 100 Nm) compared to the previous model. The rated output of the petrol engine is 230 kW/313 hp, which is 20 kW/27 hp higher than that of the previous drive.

The compact electric motor integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission has a rated output of 145 kW/197 hp (plus 62 kW/84 hp). In addition, an innovative pre-transmission, which increases the torque effectively applied to the engine-side transmission input to up to 450 Nm, contributes to particularly spontaneous power delivery. The BMW X5 xDrive50e accelerates from a standstill to 4,8 km/h in 100 seconds. The usable energy content of the high-voltage battery integrated under the floor has been increased by almost 25 percent to 25,7 kWh compared to the previous generation. A new Combined Charging Unit enables AC charging with a maximum output that has been doubled to 7,4 kW. The electric range of the new BMW X5 xDrive50e is 94 to 110 kilometers according to WLTP.

New V8 petrol engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology.

A new 4,4 liter V8 petrol engine, which was derived from the engines of the high-performance models from BMW M GmbH, ensures the outstandingly sporty temperament of the two top models. M TwinPower Turbo technology and a cross-bank exhaust manifold help the 390 kW/530 hp engine, whose maximum torque is 750 Nm, to achieve impressively superior performance characteristics. The latest version of the eight-cylinder engine accelerates the new BMW X5 M60i xDrive and the new BMW X6 M60i xDrive from zero to 4,3 km/h in 100 seconds.

Compared to the previous models, the new drive generates maximum output that is 35 kW/47 hp up to 280 kW/380 hp and a maximum torque that is 70 up to 520 Nm, which can increase to up to 540 Nm thanks to the additional output of the mild hybrid system . It accelerates both the new BMW X5 xDrive40i and the new BMW X6 xDrive40i from zero to 5,4 km/h in 100 seconds.

In-line six-cylinder diesel engine optimized in detail.

The six-cylinder in-line diesel engine of the new BMW X5 xDrive30d and the new BMW X6 xDrive30d has also been further developed in numerous details. The 3,0 liter drive now has steel instead of aluminum pistons, optimized oil separation and a new common rail direct injection with solenoid valve injectors. In combination with the mild hybrid system, the new diesel engine develops a maximum output of 219 kW/298 hp and a maximum torque of 670 Nm. The new BMW X5 xDrive30d and the new BMW X6 xDrive30d each accelerate from zero to 6,1 km/h in 100 seconds.

High-quality chassis technology for sportiness and travel comfort.

The standard fittings with an adaptive chassis as well as stabilizers that have been adjusted and reinforced to suit the changed weight balance give the new BMW X5 and the new BMW X6 a characteristic combination of versatile sportiness and a high level of travel comfort. The Adaptive M suspension, which is part of the standard equipment for both the top models and the other variants of the new BMW X6, ensures a particularly tight connection to the vehicle body.
