Hot Wheels Legends Tour: 2015 Chevrolet Colorado rock crawlers!

After that 1989 Golf Convertible as finalists of the Legends Tour, the Hot Wheels team has chosen another vehicle. They chose a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, Nickname Kymera, which was rebuilt into the Rock Crawler, as the tour's second finalist. Tim McDonald of Monroe, North Carolina spent over a year building the one-of-a-kind off-roader ready to tackle any rock in Moab. Many of the modifications are immediately noticeable. The truck boasts a Baja-style suspension system with Fox springs and massive triple bypass shock absorbers looking through the hood. This makes it significantly higher than the series. McDonald also shortened the fenders for more clearance and replaced the truck bed with custom components bolted to a custom tubular frame.

And what's under the body is just as impressive. Powering the Colorado comes from a twin-turbo diesel engine mounted just behind the cab, which explains why the front shock absorbers go straight through the hood. Chevrolet didn't offer this generation of the turbocharged Colorado in the US, and they've never built a street-legal pickup truck with a mid-mount engine. There is an all-wheel steering system to help the pickup out of various situations in terms of maneuverability, reinforced axles and special plates protect the underbody components from expensive rock encounters.

the biggest fight is yet to come

Unfortunately, Hot Wheels has not yet published any photos of the cabin. McDonald's Colorado won the Legends Tour in Charlotte, but the toughest battle is yet to come. He will be taken to one of the two semi-finals at the end of 2023, where he will face off against other finalists (including the aforementioned convertible) will fight for a chance to be included in the legendary Hot Wheels catalog as a 1/64 scale model. This year, the Legends Tour will visit eight American cities and 17 countries. If we get more information, there is of course an update for this report.
