The DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE is DS Automobiles' answer to future challenges. With the DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE, DS Automobiles presents a completely new type of automobile. The concept car gives an idea of the automotive future: inviting and elegant, reserved and generous, intelligent and poetic. The proportions and body have been developed to achieve optimal aerodynamic efficiency. The length (five meters) and the sloping roof line reduce the air resistance. The air is led past the grille via side air intakes on the 23-inch wheels.
Innovative aerodynamics
The light signature E-TENSE skilfully accentuates the profile. It reminds that the DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE is purely electric. The electric drive develops an output of 500 kW (680 hp). The latest-generation 110 kWh battery is installed in the vehicle floor and enables a range of more than 650 kilometers. The technology transferred from Formula E is characterized by outstanding driving performance. The DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in just 2,8 seconds. The grille turns into a screen. The monogram and the name DS Automobiles shine. Behind the pane of composite material, sensors read the road conditions and supply the computer with terabytes of information. The headlights DS MATRIX LED VISION form a successful unit with the daytime running lights and the illuminated area DS LIGHT VEIL. It gives a preview of the future brand signature.
Technology transfer from the FIA Formula E Championship
DS Automobiles is the first premium brand to be involved in the FIA Formula E championship. With Jean-Éric Vergne, DS TECHEETAH is the reigning world champion in the drivers' championship and world champion in the team championship. The involvement in the all-electric motorsport series serves as a development laboratory for electrified vehicles that will revolutionize the automotive market. The surface comes to life with elements that are necessary for navigation or the discovery of new forms of infotainment and communication. Information and entertainment merge by lifting the constraints of a touchscreen.
The two side screens act as digital mirrors and offer all control elements for configuration and comfort settings. Individual screens for every passenger ensure first-class comfort. Thanks to "augmented reality", the information important for driving is projected onto the windshield. The center armrest between the seats recognizes and interprets every hand movement and reacts accordingly. Thanks to the partnership with the American start-up Ultraleap, the DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE gives an idea of future interactions in the interior. Leap motion and ultrahaptics ensure that the hand can give commands by gesture and receive a sensory response. Sensors detect every movement and tiny loudspeakers send out a wave so that the user receives direct feedback.
Interactions with the environment are becoming ever easier. Passengers decide how they want to enjoy the time on board, online or offline. The DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE knows how to skew time. Depending on the driver's wishes, driving, fun or the feeling of endless travel are in the foreground. IRIS, the artificial intelligence of the DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE, is located in the center of the dashboard and can be easily operated using voice control.
Cutting-edge technology: ultrasound
In a world in which the boundary between real and virtual experiences is becoming increasingly blurred, programs can be controlled contactlessly. Passengers can still feel a haptic feeling. The haptic technology for controlling the infotainment system, which was developed in collaboration with Ultraleap, is unique. Thanks to intelligent, three-dimensional ultrasound, the user has the feeling that he is touching shapes and surfaces, although there is only emptiness. The haptic technology makes interactions both simple and magical.
Future Craft: Parisian know-how meets fine materials
The lamella of the dashboard and the seat back have sprung from the straw market. The technology is the perfect mix of craftsmanship and sustainability. Thanks to the unique know-how of a Parisian workshop, simple straw is processed into a noble material. The focus is on increased comfort. The spacious seats are decorated with cotton satin and filled with a high-density foam. Thanks to the fine, yet robust weave structure, the surface feels pleasantly soft. A braided microfiber cover made of three different materials adorns the doors. The many transparent rushes and the ambient light attract attention. The unique braiding technique combines craftsmanship and technology.
Craftsmanship: straw marquetry
Straw can transform from a cheap raw material into a luxury good. The studio "Lison de Caunes ”processes straw using a traditional technique from the 17th century. The artfully prepared rye straw impresses in the interior of the DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE with its silky-soft surface and the shimmering color. The natural raw material is grown and harvested in Burgundy according to traditional technology. The straw is then dried and tinted before the stems are split individually. The matt side is pasted and flattened. Thanks to its natural varnish, the straw is heat-resistant and waterproof.
